Development of a Spirally-Shaped Linear Actuator

2008 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2008
This paper reports development of a novel high thrust linear machine with spiral structure. This motor consists of a mover and stator with spirally-shaped iron cores. The mover moves spirally in the stator and the linear motion is extracted to drive the load.

Control of linear systems with saturating actuators

Proceedings of 1995 American Control Conference - ACC'95, 1996
The paper deals with (linear) systems of the form \(\dot x = Ax + B \sigma (u + g(x,t))\), \(y = Cx\), with \(x,u\) and \(y\) the state-, input- and output vector; \(\sigma\) is a saturation function and \(g\) represents the uncertainties/disturbances in the system.

Design of a Linear Actuator for Railway Turnouts

IECON 2018 - 44th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2018
In this paper a linear actuator for railway tournouts is proposed. To make the desing simpler and more failure resistant the actuator was designed to be gearless and to fit into a sleeper. The parametes of the drive were optimized for a given load trajectory. A machine prototype was built and tested.

Design Considerations for Coreless Linear Actuators

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2013
Linear permanent magnet synchronous motors are often used in applications where a high accuracy is needed. This paper investigates the influence of the key design parameters on the performance of a linear actuator with vertically magnetized magnets and a magnet array with quasi-Halbach magnetization.

A flexure-based electromagnetic linear actuator

Nanotechnology, 2008
This paper introduces a novel nano-positioning actuator with large displacement and driving force, termed a flexure-based electromagnetic linear actuator (FELA). It mainly comprises an electromagnetic driving scheme and flexure-supporting bearings that provide infinite positioning resolution and highly repeatable motion.

A Scanning Linear Actuator

1995
Abstract This paper reports on the design of a small actuator for a linear-scan application. Various different types of model used during design included field and circuit models. Details of the actuator topology and simulation results are given in the paper.

Optimal actuator placement for linear systems with limited number of actuators

2017 American Control Conference (ACC), 2017
A completely controllable linear dynamical system can be steered from any given initial state to any specified final state with an application of input control energy. The input control energy is provided through a combination of actuators. It is desirable to have a limited number of actuators, which also presents the possibility of multiple actuator ...

A dynamic linearization concept for piezoelectric actuators

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 2011
We present a linearization circuit based on a capacitive Wheatstone bridge that is able to set a desired polarization in a piezoactuator. The system is meant to be used for dynamic actuation in a broad frequency range. A general nonlinear model for piezoactuators is presented in which two nonlinear sub-systems are cascaded: the electric-field-to ...

Development of a new linear actuator for androids

2008 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2008
In order to realize androids and humanoids that have very humanlike mechanisms and movements, the development of new linear actuators is necessary. In the development of the actuators, we have found a structure of the linear actuator that is more powerful and quick through iterative simulations based on the 3D finite element method and developed the ...

Conducting IPN actuators: From polymer chemistry to actuator with linear actuation

Synthetic Metals, 2006
Among electroactive actuators, those based on electronic conducting polymers (ECPs) possess several advantages (low actuation voltages, large deformations, etc.) but also some drawbacks (bending movements only, delamination, etc.). In order to overcome the delamination process observed in working three-layered actuators, we have developed a new concept
