The elastic metric: A review of elasticity with large distortions [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics, 2013
The mechanical behavior of soft matter is characterized by large shape changes, often accompanied by small changes of elastic energy; non-linear elasticity, with large, inhomogeneous, and anisotropic distortions, that may evolve in time, proved to be an ...

From post-distortion to pre-distortion for power amplifiers linearization

IEEE Communications Letters, 2003
This letter presents a new method of digital adaptive pre-distortion for linearization of power amplifiers (PA). The method is derived from a post-distortion approach which identifies the PA inverse function. This approach leads to the minimization of a quadratic function of the polynomial coefficients in the case of a polynomial predistorter form and ...

Rate-distortion in near-linear time

2008 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory, 2008
We present two results related to the computational complexity of lossy compression. The first result shows that for a memoryless source Ps with rate-distortion function R(D), the rate-distortion pair (R(D) + gamma, D + isin) can be achieved with constant decoding time per symbol and encoding time per symbol proportional to C1(gamma)isin-C2(gamma). The

Identification of Linear Systems in the Presence of Non-Linear Distortions

open access: yes, 1992
A method is presented to measure and identify a linear system in the presence of nonlinear distortions. The method is based on a two-step approach. In the first step the influence of nonlinear systems up to degree 4 is eliminated.

Analysis of non-linear distortions on MC-CDMA

ICC '98. 1998 IEEE International Conference on Communications. Conference Record. Affiliated with SUPERCOMM'98 (Cat. No.98CH36220), 2002
We analyze the influence of the effects of the non-linearity due to high power amplifiers in MC-CDMA scheme using BPSK modulation. The results are compared to those obtained with the classical BPSK modulated DS-CDMA scheme. It is shown that without predistortion the total degradation for the up-link of a cellular mobile communications system is about 2

Intersymbol interference due to linear and nonlinear distortion

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1996
The paper provides a recursion model for the calculation of the probability density function (pdf) of intersymbol interference (ISI) which is caused by the combined effect of linear channel dispersion and of nonlinear distortion. The nonlinearity introduces statistical interdependencies between the interfering symbols and these dependencies are ...

Distortion power in linear and non-linear systems

International Journal of Electronics, 1990
A new determination of the distortion power in linear and non-linear systems with non-sinusoidal voltage and/or current is proposed. Existence of the active and reactive components of distortion power for linear and non-linear systems is shown. The distortion power components may exist even in pure resistive or pure reactive systems.

The Correction of Signals Distorted by Linear Apparatus

Proceedings of the Physical Society, 1961
In a previous paper by Flynn and Seymour a technique was developed whereby a type of distortion produced by linear apparatus could be corrected rapidly and efficiently to obtain a `true' output signal. The distortion considered was not the most general linear distortion, and several cases of practical importance were therefore excluded.
