Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics Pullout Analyses of Headed Anchors in Stressed Concrete

open access: yes, 2010
The results of research initiated in the early 1980s led to the replacement of plasticity-based design guidelines for the load-carrying capacity of headed anchors embedded in concrete with those developed using fracture mechanics.

Enhancing Low‐Temperature Performance of Sodium‐Ion Batteries via Anion‐Solvent Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DOL is introduced into electrolytes as a co‐solvent, increasing slat solubility, ion conductivity, and the de‐solvent process, and forming an anion‐rich solvent shell due to its high interaction with anion. With the above virtues, the batteries using this electrolyte exhibit excellent cycling stability at low temperatures. Abstract Sodium‐ion batteries

Prediction of L-type Mitered Joint Behavior with Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics: Experimental and Numerical Modeling

open access: yesBioResources
Numerical modeling was used for mitered joints prepared with wood-based composite members (poly(furfuryl alcohol)) using Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics (LEFM). The aim was to understand the joint performance under outdoor conditions.

Effects of constitutive parameters on the accuracy of measured fracture energy using the DCB-specimen

open access: yes, 2008
Several methods exist to estimate the fracture energy for adhesive joints using the double cantilever beam specimen and linear elastic fracture mechanics. Since the mechanical properties of all adhesives are non-linear, errors are generated. By use of an

Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.

Fracture mechanisms and failure criteria of adhesive joints and toughened epoxy adhesives

open access: yes, 2010
PhDAdhesive bonded applications are used widely in industry because of significant advantages such as uniform stress distribution, and the ability to join different materials.

Mechanical Behavior and Fracture Mechanisms of MXene/PVDF Nanocomponsites: In Situ Characterization and Multiscale Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multiscale experiments and modeling reveal how Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets reinforce PVDF nanocomposites. An optimal MXene loading (∼1 wt.%) nearly doubles tensile strength through efficient stress transfer, flake alignment, and crack‐deflection mechanisms, transforming ductile polymer behavior into a controlled multi‐stage fracture pathway which aligns ...

Non-Singular Dislocation Elastic Fields and Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics

open access: yes, 2010
One of the hallmarks of the traditional linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) is the presence of an (integrable) inverse square root singularity of strains and stresses in the vicinity of the crack tip.

Regulated Ion‐Diffusion Hydrogels for Subtle and Multimodal Temperature‐Strain Sensing in Wound Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A soft, dual‐channel hydrogel patch enables simultaneous detection of wound temperature and strain by integrating ion‐diffusion‐mediated thermoelectric and resistive sensing. The conformal design maintains stable performance during motion, capturing subtle inflammatory and mechanical changes for continuous wound monitoring.

Fracture mechanics analysis of an anti-plane crack in gradient elastic sandwich composite structures

open access: yes, 2019
The strain gradient elasticity theory is applied to the solution of a mode III crack in an elastic layer sandwiched by two elastic layers of infinite thickness.
