Journal of Neutron Research, 2004Residual stresses in linear friction welded (LFW) IMI550 have been determined by means of high energy synchrotron X-ray diffraction. Specimens were studied in the as-welded, and three different post weld heat treated conditions. Mid-thickness-mid-width line scans were recorded across the weld line in the three principal directions of the welds.

Linear Friction Welding of a Single Crystal Superalloy
Materials Science Forum, 2012The effect of forging pressure on linear friction welding (LFW) behaviour of a single crystal Ni-based superalloy was investigated. Crystal orientations of the specimens were controlled and results indicated that welding success is dependent on proximity of the oscillation direction to the <011> direction.
