Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

Linear functional differential equations possessing solutions with a given growth rate

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2005
We establish optimal, in a sense, conditions under which, for arbitrary forcing terms from a suitable class, a linear inhomogeneous functional differential equation in a preordered Banach space possesses solutions satisfying a certain growth restriction.

Quasi-linear functional differential equations with Property A

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 2007
AbstractWe study oscillatory properties of solutions of a functional differential equation of the form(0.1)u(n)(t)+F(u)(t)=0, where n⩾2 and F:C(R+;R)→Lloc(R+;R) is a continuous mapping. Sufficient conditions are established for this equation to have the so-called Property A.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

An operator theory of linear functional differential equations

open access: yesJournal of Differential Equations, 1978
AbstractAn operator theory, based on convolution rings and modules, is developed for various classes of first-order vector functional differential equations of the retarded type with finite and infinite delays. The existence and construction of complete solutions is approached in a novel manner by incorporating initial data into the operator framework.

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Dispersions for linear differential equations of arbitrary order [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
summary:For linear differential equations of the second order in the Jacobi form \[ y^{\prime \prime } + p(x)y = 0 \] O. Borvka introduced a notion of dispersion.
