Transmission Mode Ion/Ion Electron-Transfer Dissociation in a Linear Ion Trap

Analytical Chemistry, 2007
Two related methods for effecting electron-transfer dissociation (ETD) are described that involve either the storage of analyte cations in a linear ion trap while reagent anions are transmitted through the cations or storage of the reagent anions with transmission of the analyte cations.

Modeling of a linear ion trap with driving rectangular waveforms

Journal of Mass Spectrometry
AbstractWe consider the operation of a digital linear ion trap with resonant radial ejection. A sequence of rectangular voltage pulses with a dipole resonance signal is applied to the trap electrodes. The periodic waveform is piecewise constant, has zero mean, and is determined by an asymmetry parameter : one value is taken on interval and another on ,

Miniaturized Linear Wire Ion Trap Mass Analyzer

Analytical Chemistry, 2016
We report a linear ion trap (LIT) in which the electric field is formed by fine wires held under tension and accurately positioned using holes drilled in two end plates made of plastic. The coordinates of the hole positions were optimized in simulation.

Linear Paul trap for strontium ions

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2002
We demonstrate a linear radio-frequency trap for confining strontium ions that is simply constructed nearly entirely with commercial off-the-shelf components. The electrodes of this trap are spaced to allow tight radial confinement, and segmented to give tight axial confinement with minimal distortion of the radio-frequency field. The resulting secular

A Microscale Planar Linear Ion Trap Mass Spectrometer

Journal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry, 2018
The planar linear ion trap (PLIT) is a version of the two-dimensional linear quadrupole ion trap constructed using two facing dielectric substrates on which electrodes are lithographically patterned. In this article, we present a PLIT that was successfully miniaturized from a radius of 2.5 mm to a microscale radius of 800 μm (a scaling factor of 3.125).

Positive Ion Transmission Mode Ion/Ion Reactions in a Hybrid Linear Ion Trap

Analytical Chemistry, 2004
A triple quadrupole mass spectrometer capable of ion trapping experiments has been adapted for ion/ion reaction studies. The instrument is based on a commercially available linear ion trap (LIT) tandem mass spectrometer (i.e., an MDS SCIEX 2000 Q TRAP) that has been modified by mounting an atmospheric sampling glow discharge ionization (ASGDI) source ...

Hydrogen/deuterium exchange of myoglobin ions in a linear quadrupole ion trap

Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, 2002
Abstract The hydrogen/deuterium (H/D) exchange of gas‐phase ions of holo‐ and apo‐myoglobin has been studied by confining the ions in a linear quadrupole ion trap with D 2 O or CD 3 OD at a pressure of several mTorr. Apo‐myoglobin ions

Observation of sympathetically cooled 43Ca+ ions in a linear ion trap

Applied Physics B, 2011
We report the observation of sympathetically cooled 43Ca+ (natural abundance 0.135%) in a linear ion trap utilizing simultaneously trapped isotope ions as coolant. We investigated different possibilities of realizing efficient sympathetic cooling and observed the peaks of the hyperfine transitions of 43Ca+ under various experimental conditions.

High‐resolution excitation of ions in a low‐pressure linear ion trap

Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, 2010
Abstract An exploration of the parameters necessary to obtain high‐resolution excitation, using dipolar excitation, of an ion in a linear ion trap has been undertaken in this study. These parameters included ion trap pressure, excitation amplitude, excitation period, drive frequency of the ion trap, Mathieu

Progress on Linear Ion Trap Mercury-Ion Frequency Standard

2013
Mercury-ion microwave frequency standard could achieve excellent stability and insensitivity to environment perturbations, due to its large atomic mass and Q value of clock transition spectrum line. These performances make it attractive for both ground-based and space applications.
