Sympathetic cooling of molecular ion motion to the ground state
We demonstrate sympathetic sideband cooling of a ^40 CaH ^+ molecular ion co-trapped with a ^40 Ca ^+ atomic ion in a linear Paul trap. Both axial modes of the two-ion chain are simultaneously cooled to near the ground state of motion. The center of mass

Bio‐Inspired Synthesis of Macroporous Single Crystal Particles as Scattering Agents
A general strategy is presented that delivers unique, single‐crystal microparticles that combine submicron macroporosity and uniform particle shapes. A bioinspired approach is used to occlude three distinct types of additives – polystyrene microspheres, polymer vesicles and amino acids – within calcite single crystals, and subsequent thermal annealing ...

Ion/ion reactions in a linear ion trap (LIT) are of great interest because LITs provide significantly higher trapping efficiency and trapping capacity for externally injected ions than three-dimensional (3D) ion traps.

Electrospun Wood‐Derived Biopolymers as Electrodes in Electrochemical Energy Storage Technologies
Electrospinning transforms wood‐derived cellulose and lignin into architecturally defined, binder‐free carbon electrodes with tuneable porosity and functionality. This review shows how fibre design enables decoupled charge and mass transport, enhancing performance across battery systems, while identifying key challenges in spinnability, scalability ...

Design and characterization of a cryogenic linear Paul ion trap for ion-neutral reaction studies
Ultra-high vacuum conditions are ideal for the study of trapped ions. They offer an almost perturbation-free environment, where ions confined in traps can be studied for extended periods of time-facilitating precision measurements and allowing infrequent

Efficient associative ionization of ultracold lithium and the long-lived Li_{2}^{+}
We report on the efficient production of Li_{2}^{+} ions in a magneto-optical trap (MOT) of Li atoms prepared in an ensemble of 2S, 2P, and 3S states. A linear Paul trap surrounding the MOT is used to trap and investigate the time evolution of the ion ...

Monolithic UV‐ozone oxidation of Ta forms an ultrathin Ta2O5/TaOx bilayer enabling resistive switching with a vertical defect gradient. A stoichiometric surface layer over an oxygen‐deficient sublayer promotes localized filament nucleation near the top interface, enabling low‐voltage operation, and reduced cycle‐to‐cycle variability.

Defect generation and dynamics during quenching in finite size homogeneous ion chains
An equally spaced linear chain of ions provides a test-bed for studying the defect formation during a topological phase transition from a linear to a zig-zag configuration.
