“It Is Much Safer to Be Sparse than Connected”: Safe Control of Robotic Swarm Density Dynamics with PDE Optimization with State Constraints

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This paper proposes a novel control framework to ensure safety of a robotic swarm. A feedback optimization controller is capable of driving the swarm toward a target density while keeping risk‐zone exposure below a safety threshold. Theory and experiments show how safety is more effectively achieved for sparsely connected swarms.

Border harm and affective injustice: The politics of anger at the Melilla border, Spain

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Community Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract This article examines protests in a detention center in Melilla, Spain—a site where structural violence intersects with the everyday harms of confinement. Adopting a justice and dignity‐centered perspective, we analyze grassroots forms of resistance emerging at the border. The study focuses on the protests of Tunisian migrants and explores the

An iterative output feedback controller-design strategy for energy-to-peak structural vibration control

open access: yesJournal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering
To address the issue of inadequate control effect resulting from the challenge of measuring state feedback information comprehensively, this paper proposes an iterative output feedback energy-to-peak control method that solely depends on partial external

Guaranteed Cost Nonfragile Robust Controller for Walking Simulation of Quadruped Search Robot on a Slope of VRML Model

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2014
The problem of walking simulation for the quadruped search robot on a slope is described as an uncertainty system. In order to create the virtual ramp road environment, VRML modeling language is used to build a real environment, which is a 3D terrain ...

Linear Matrix Inequality Approach to Designing Damping and Tracking Control for Nanopositioning Application

open access: yesVibration, 2022
This paper presents a method to extend the eigenstructure assignment based design of the Positive Position Feedback (PPF) damping controller to the family of well-known second-order Positive Feedback Controllers (PFC) namely: (i) the Positive Velocity ...

Structurally Constrained H∞ Suboptimal Control Design Using an Iterative Linear Matrix Inequality Algorithm Based on a Dual Design Formulation

open access: yes, 2013
A general approach for solving structurally constrained H∞ suboptimal control problems is proposed. The structurally constrained problems include static output feedback control, decentralized control, and fixed controllers for different operating ...

Helping financially under‐resourced unmarried mothers move forward and flourish: Feasibility findings from an innovative coaching‐centered place‐based initiative

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Community Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Longer‐duration, holistic, cohort‐based, coach‐led interventions may be particularly effective in promoting both economic health and emotional well‐being among unmarried mothers living in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. Aligning with the 1999 Centers for Disease Control (CDC) framework for program evaluation, this study presents a ...

Computing rational solutions of linear matrix inequalities [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 38th International Symposium on Symbolic and Algebraic Computation, 2013
Consider a $(D\times D)$ symmetric matrix $\sfA$ whose entries are linear forms in $\Q[X_1, \ldots, X_k]$ with coefficients of bit size $\leq \tau$. We provide an algorithm which decides the existence of rational solutions to the linear matrix inequality $\sfA\succeq 0$ and outputs such a rational solution if it exists.

A Global Prospective Harmonization Framework for Suicidality, Anhedonia, and Obsessive‐Compulsive Symptoms in Psychiatric Genetic Studies: A Cross‐Continental Study Within the Ancestral Population Network

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part B: Neuropsychiatric Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study aims to prospectively collect harmonized, quantitative, and dimensional psychiatric phenotypes (suicidality, anhedonia, and obsessive‐compulsive symptoms) and information on discrimination, stigma, and unfair treatment in up to 27,500 individuals across diverse ancestries and clinical populations for genetic analysis within the NIMH

Relative Controllability of Caputo Fractional-Order Stochastic Delay System Driven by Lévy Noise

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics
In this paper, we study the relative controllability of fractional stochastic delay system (FSDS) driven by Lévy noise. First, we derive the solution of linear FSDS by using the delayed Mittag–Leffler matrix function.
