Linear-motor topology

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1973
In rotating electric motors, the working magnetic flux is usually assumed to cross the airgap substantially in radial planes, and, in this respect, the working flux could be said to be ‘1-dimensional’. In transverse-flux machines, 2- or 3-dimensional flux loops are possible, and the number of different shapes of transverse-flux machine which can be ...

Magnetostrictive linear motor

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1992
The magnetostrictive rod of a linear motor is made of twinned single crys Terfenol-D having its crystalline axis aligned with the rod axis to produce non-uniform transverse magnetostriction during axial magnetostrictive elongation of the rod in response to a triggering magnetic field.

Linear induction motors

Proceedings of the IEE Part A: Power Engineering, 1957
The magnetic field of a linear motor is evenly distributed over the airgap between the primary and secondary members by providing a ladderlike grid structure of conductors at each side, by interleaving the laminations with conductive stampings near the sides, by strips of conductive material on or near the surface of the stator, or by chamfering the ...

Linear and Rotary Molecular Motors

1998
A single molecule of F1-ATPase has been shown to be the smallest rotary motor ever found, with a central rotor of radius approximately 1 nm turning in a stator barrel of radius approximately 5 nm. Continuous rotation of the central gamma subunit was revealed under an optical microscope by attaching to gamma a huge marker, an actin filament.

The application of linear motors

Proceedings IPEMC 2000. Third International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IEEE Cat. No.00EX435), 2002
It dates about 100 years back that the idea of a three-phase linear motor first was announced. In the 1960s, Eric Laithwaite published papers about theory and application of "flat three-phase linear motors". In parallel to him, at the Technical University of Chemnitz, similar activities took place to create the theory of these motors and to make first ...

On dynamic feedback linearization of an induction motor

1999 European Control Conference (ECC), 1999
This paper proposes a new method of dynamic feedback linearization control of an induction motor. It is known that the fifth-order induction motor dynamics given in a stator fixed a-b reference frame is dynamically feedback linearizable. The proposed in literature controller exhibits, however, several drawbacks which preclude its industrial application.

Overview of Linear Motors for Transportation Applications

2018 IEEE 27th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE), 2018
Linear motor has been widely used in transportation applications. Different types of linear motor with different performance characteristics (acceleration, fault tolerance, efficiency, etc.) are applied for various transportation systems (long distance, short distance, factory, etc.).
