Linear polarization measurements

Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1968
Abstract The use of the Compton polarimeter is discussed for the measurement of linear polarizations of gamma rays from aligned nuclear excited states. A set of formulas is given for calculating the polarization-correlation of any member of a multiple gamma-ray cascade and for calculating the Compton scattering asymmetry expected from a polarization ...

Linear Polarization in AGN

2022
A schematic of the AGN and the main source of linear polarization in the optical and UV range, the scattering, both from the continuum and from the broad lines, is shown. Some examples of potential uses of linear polarimetry are presented, such as the observation of broad lines in type 2 AGNs, the measurement and structure of the BLR, a new method to ...

Bremsstrahlung linear polarization

Canadian Journal of Physics, 1989
The dependence of the bremsstrahlung perpendicular and parallel triple differential cross sections and the linear polarization on the angles and energies of the incident and scattered electron and of the emitted gamma-ray has been studied in the high-energy small-angle hypothesis.

Linear polarization sensitivity

OSA Annual Meeting, 1993
Remote sensing instruments often contain optical components, such as fold mirrors, diffraction gratings, and detectors, whose efficiency depends on the incident polarization state.

Bremsstrahlung linear polarization

Il Nuovo Cimento, 1960
This work presents a general quantitative description of the bremsstrahlung linear polarization on the basis of original experimental data and available theoretical calculations. The results give the dependence of the polarization ona) the initial electron kinetic energy,T0, in a range from 10−2 to 103 MeV,b) the photon energy in a range from 0.1T0 ...

Optimization of polarizer angles for measurements of the degree and angle of linear polarization for linear polarizer-based polarimeters

Optics Communications, 2015
Abstract Linear polarizer-based polarimeters that measure the degree of linear polarization (DoLP) and the angle of polarization (AoP) were considered in this study. Variances of DoLP and AoP of the region of interest (ROI) to be measured were analyzed using a statistical method.

Linear Series-Fed Patch Array with Dual Circular Polarization or Arbitrary Linear Polarization

2019 International Conference on Electromagnetics in Advanced Applications (ICEAA), 2019
A linear series-fed dual-port patch array working at 10 GHz with dual circular polarization or arbitrary linear polarization is proposed. This array consists of five circular patch elements which are serially excited by a traveling wave guided in a microstrip line.

The Linear Polarization in Moustaches

1999
In this paper we present the results of the polarization observations of 11 moustaches obtained with the Large Solar Vacuum Telescope at Baikal Astrophysical Observatory. The moustaches are situated near the regions with quick motion of plasma which reached velocities of 100 km/sec.

Principles of microtubule polarity in linear cells

Developmental Biology, 2022
The microtubule cytoskeleton is critical for maintenance of long and long-lived neurons. The overlapping array of microtubules extends from the major site of synthesis in the cell body to the far reaches of axons and dendrites. New materials are transported from the cell body along these neuronal roads by motor proteins, and building blocks and ...

Bragg fiber design for linear polarization

Optics Letters, 2004
A new design is presented for Bragg fibers that allows low-loss propagation for linearly polarized light. Predictions based on a simple ray model show that approximately doubling the thickness of the first wall layer results in low losses at TM-like boundaries while keeping TE-like boundary losses manageable.
