Definition of a linear equivalent model for a non-linear system with impacts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Modal characteristics of non-linear system are typically studied through response to harmonic excitation and using various definitions of non-linear modes. However, few results are available for systems under broadband excitation.

On the stability and control of discrete linear systems with clock synchronization errors

open access: yes, 2011
This paper considers discrete linear time-invariant systems that can be decomposed into subsystems whose states are synchronized by a common clock whose signal reaches them with delays.

Stability conditions for a non-linear size-structured model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper we consider a general non-linear size-structured population dynamical model with size- and density-dependent fertility and mortality rates and with size-dependent growth rate. Based on M. Farkas (Appl. Math. Comput.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Lyapunov functions for linear nonautonomous dynamical equations on time scales [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The existence of a Lyapunov function is established following a method of Yoshizawa for the uniform exponential asymptotic stability of the zero solution of a nonautonomous linear dynamical equation on a time scale with uniformly bounded ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Strong practical stability and stabilization of discrete linear repetitive processes

open access: yes, 2009
This paper considers two-dimensional (2D) discrete linear systems recursive over the upper right quadrant described by well known state-space models. Included are discrete linear repetitive processes that evolve over subset of this quadrant.

Permafrost Thaw Patterning Through Thermal Channelization

open access: yesWater Resources Research
On some frozen hillslopes, subsurface water above permafrost is routed through regularly spaced, linear features known as water tracks, which are active sources of greenhouse gas release.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

The stability analysis of systems with nonlinear feedback expressed by a quadratic program [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We consider the stability of the feedback connection of a stable linear time invariant (LTI) plant with a static nonlinearity expressed by a certain class of quadratic program (QP).
