Altered plasma cytokines in dogs with atopic dermatitis

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 33, Issue 2, Page 131-e38, April 2022., 2022
Background – Canine (Canis lupus familiaris) atopic dermatitis (AD) shares similar clinical signs to human AD. The abnormal immune response of AD is orchestrated by T lymphocytes, and may include variable involvement of cytokines, Regulatory T (Treg) cells, eosinophils, mast cells and other immune components.

Role of circulating fibrocytes in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 6, Page 1256-1265, December 2020., 2020
The circulating fibrocyte percentage is increased in patients with acute appendicitis. This may improve diagnostics, and reduce unnecessary radiation exposure and surgical operations. Circulating fibrocyte percentage may help in diagnosis of acute appendicitis. Background Improved diagnostic biomarkers are required for acute appendicitis.

Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio as a predictor of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and survival in oesophageal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 3, Page 416-423, June 2020., 2020
The neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, dichotomized at 2·25, was strongly associated with Mandard tumour regression grade in patients who had neoadjuvant chemotherapy for oesophageal adenocarcinoma. The systemic inflammatory response may offer a novel therapeutic target for patients at risk of poor response.

Predictive immunohistochemical features for tumour response to chemoradiotherapy in rectal cancer

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 2, Page 301-309, April 2020., 2020
The combination of reduced expression of cluster of differentiation (CD) 133 and cyclo‐oxygenase (COX) 2 and increased density of CD8+ tumour‐infiltrating lymphocytes is a significant predictor of tumour response to preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT).

Persistent Sydenham’s chorea is not associated with sustained lymphocyte dysfunction

open access: yesArquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria, 2015
The mechanisms involved in the symptoms of Sydenham’s chorea (SC) remain obscure. Taking into account the autoreactive antibody-mediated hypothesis of SC pathogenesis, the persistence of chorea may be associated with increased levels of B1 lymphocytes ...
