Linguistic assimilation in two variables
Language Variation and Change, 1993ABSTRACTThis article examines the type of relatively rapid speech modification sometimes called “accommodation” (Trudgill, 1986). In this case, we track change on the part of speakers of Honduran Spanish newly resident among speakers of Northern Mexican Spanish. The two variables investigated are final /n/ velarization and spirantization, both of which

A numerical approach to linguistic variables and linguistic space
Proceedings of IEEE 5th International Fuzzy Systems, 2002The paper introduces an approach to translate linguistic variables (LV) into numerical ones without using the concept of membership. It achieves this goal in three steps: (1) arrange all the atomic terms of a LV inside the interval (0,1|; 2) put a restriction on any compound term of a LV that it can only be formed by the product of a weight vector and ...

Optimization with linguistic variables
2003The aim of this paper is to introduce a novel statement of fuzzy mathematical programming problems and to provide a method for findig a fair solution to these problems. Suppose we are given a mathematical programming problem in which the functional relationship between the decision variables and the objective function is not completely known.

Abstract In the first chapter, it was argued that the types of linguistic strategy adopted by a migrant group depend to a great extent on the nature of the differences between the language of the migrant group and that of the host community. Where the two language varieties in contact are mutually intelligible and syntagmatically similar

Modelling Non-Numeric Linguistic Variables
2001We consider how non-numeric linguistic variables may take their values from a pre-ordered set of vaguely defined linguistic terms. The mathematical structures that arise from the assumption that linguistic terms are pair-wise tolerant are considered. A homomorphism between tolerance spaces, filter bases and fuzzy numbers is shown.

Covering linguistic variability in Arabic
2019Abstract In this article a series of Arabic terms that refer to language variability will be discussed. The basic principle of the analysis is that these terms are explicitly or implicitly informed by language ideological attitudes concerning linguistic variability in Arabic in which a diglossic division is taken for granted.
