X‐Ray Computed Tomography Quantifies Primary Phases and Reveals Crack Morphology in High‐Cycle Fatigue of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Primary phases and a fatigue crack are studied in a forged blank of an aluminum alloy using synchrotron and laboratory X‐ray computed tomography. To image the crack, the fatigue test is interrupted, and a static tensile load is applied to open the crack.

Influence of a Standard Heat Treatment on the Microstructure and Properties of Inconel X‐750 Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ni‐base superalloys produced using additive manufacturing (AM) have a different response to heat treatments when compared to their conventional counterparts. Due to such unpredictability, various alloys with industrial interest are currently overlooked in most prior AM research.

Bis(2,2′-bipyridyl)-1κ2N,N′;3κ2N,N′-bis(4-bromo-2-formylphenolato)-1κ2O,O′;3κ2O,O′-bis[μ-2-(5-bromo-2-oxidobenzylideneamino)ethanesulfonato]-1:2κ3O:N,O2;2:3κ3N,O2:O-tricopper(II) monohydrate

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2009
The title complex, [Cu3(C9H8BrNO4S)2(C7H4BrO2)2(C10H8N2)2]·H2O, lies on an inversion center located on the central Cu atom, which is four-coordinated in a square-planar geometry, whereas the outer Cu atoms related by symmetry are five ...

First‐Principles Modeling of Solid Solution Softening and Hardening Effects in Al–Mg–Zr–Si Aluminum Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The role of various alloying elements in face‐centered cubic aluminum on the barrier of a Shockley partial dislocation during its motion is presented. The study aims to understand how alloying atoms such as Mg, Si, and Zr affect the energy landscape for dislocation motion, thus influencing the solid solution hardening and softening in aluminum, which ...

DG in DG (Digital grammar in descriptive geometry)

open access: yesEGA, 2019
Nowadays the inclusion of CAD software is well-established in Geometry teaching within the field of Architectural Graphic Expression. In this environment, we suggest the introduction of visual programming software tools which would allow us to focus on ...

A Simulative Approach for the Prediction of Mesoscale Residual Stress Fields in Solution‐Strengthened Ferritic Ductile Iron

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a 3D representative volume element‐based simulation approach to predict mesoscopic residual stress and strain fields in silicon solid solution‐strengthened ductile cast iron. By modeling phase transformation kinetics with an enhanced Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov model, the effects of varying cooling rates on residual stresses are ...

Crystal structure of bis[2-(benzothiazol-2-yl)phenolato-κ2N,O]copper(II)

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E: Crystallographic Communications, 2015
In the title complex, [Cu(C13H8NOS)2], the CuII atom is coordinated by two N atoms and two O atoms from two bidentate benzothiazolphenolate ligands, forming a distorted tetrahedral geometry [dihedral angle between two N—Cu—O planes: 45.1 (2)°].

Mechanical Behavior and Microstructural Changes Associated with Tensile Deformation above the Martensite Start Temperature during Quenching and Subsequent Partitioning of a Low‐Alloy 37SiB6 Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A new experimental setup, incorporating digital image correlation and infrared thermography in combination with inductive‐conductive heating for precise temperature control, is used to analyze the mechanical behavior and microstructural changes of sheet metal under complex thermomechanical test conditions that represent quench and partitioning ...

Effect of plasma geometry on divertor heat flux spreading: MONALISA simulations and experimental results from TCV

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2017
Safe ITER operations will rely on power spreading to keep the peak heat flux within divertor material constraints. A solid understanding and parameterization of heat flux profiles is therefore mandatory.
