Measuring the effects of OCR errors on similarity linking
Proceedings of the Fourth International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2002The vector-space model offers an easy and robust model for Information Retrieval. Thereby, the similarities between queries and documents as well as the similarities between documents themselves are of importance. Document similarities may be used in order to generate links between documents that lead users from one document to related ones.

Omissions and semantic errors in aphasic naming: Is there a link?
Brain and Language, 2008Within a discrete two-stage model of lexicalization, semantic errors and errors of omission are assumed to be independent events. In contrast, cascading and interactive models allow for an influence of word form on lexical selection and thus for an inherent relationship in accounting for both error types.

Error Rates on a Data Link with Nonlinear Regeneration
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1973A model of nonlinear data wave regeneration without retiming is analyzed. Attention is focused on performance after regeneration and subsequent detection. The communication model consists of a pseudoternary signal that is regenerated at one data station, but not retimed prior to retransmission to another station. The signal regeneration is accomplished

An analysis of link level protocols for error prone links
Proceedings of the seventh symposium on Data communications - SIGCOMM '81, 1981This paper analyzes the maximum throughput across a full duplex link, under three link level protocols. The three protocols all assume cumulative acknowledgements, but the sender's retransmission policy and the destination's policy on retaining correctly received packets which arrive before an expected retransmission do differ. The results quantify the

Error training: Missing link in surgical education
Surgery, 2012PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES. Human error is inevitable and must be anticipated, especially in environments where novices are developing new knowledge and skills. In medical education, faculty members are charged with supervising their residents to minimize chances of patient care errors.

Error rate evaluation of wireless infrared links
ICC '98. 1998 IEEE International Conference on Communications. Conference Record. Affiliated with SUPERCOMM'98 (Cat. No.98CH36220), 2002A novel approach to the evaluation of bit error rate performance for directive optical wireless links, which takes into account shot noise, fluorescent lighting and intersymbol interference (ISI) is presented. The evaluation technique is based on nonclassical Gauss quadrature rules, with the fluorescent light and the ISI from high pass filtering being ...

Low power error control for wireless links
Proceedings of the 3rd annual ACM/IEEE international conference on Mobile computing and networking - MobiCom '97, 1997Energy efficiency, which directly affects battery life and portability, is perhaps the single most important design metric in hand-held computing devices capable of mobile networking over wireless radio links. By virtue of their being relatively thin clients, a high fraction of the power consumption in portable wireless computing devices is accounted ...

Link error prediction for wireless system simulations
2004 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (IEEE Cat. No.04TH8733), 2004A link error prediction (LEP) methodology allows the abstraction of link performance into system level studies, so that system performance may be characterized efficiently. The quasi-static method (QSM) method (http://www.3gpp2.org) (R. Ratasuk et al., 2002) which assumes perfect channel quality estimates for demodulation, has been widely used for ...

Optimizing the Target Error Rate for Link Adaptation
2015 IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM), 2014Wireless link adaptation configures the physical layer of the transmitter in the presence of dynamic channel conditions to maximize link performance under error rate reliability constraints. Typically, error rate reliability targets are defined externally and remain fixed, regardless of the physical layer configuration.

Probabilistic Error Detecting in Numerical Linked Data
2015Linked Open Data LOD has become a vast repository with billions of triples available in thousands of datasets. One of the most pressing challenges to Linked Data management is detecting errors in numerical data. This study proposes a novel probabilistic framework that enables the detection of inconsistencies in numerical attributes including not only ...
