The risk of basal and squamous cell carcinomas of the skin cancer incidence and external radiation in the updated National Registry for radiation workers cohort in the UK

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? While ultraviolet radiation from the sun is the main risk factor for non‐melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), additional factors contribute to NMSC development. The present study examined the impact of occupational radiation exposure on NMSC risk among radiation workers in the United Kingdom.

Deficiency in infiltration of CD8/CD3 positive lymphocytes and macrophages plays a role in lip carcinogenesis: an immunohistochemical study

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology
Objective: To evaluate the immunoexpression profile for CD8, CD3, CD20 and CD68 in the process and carcinogenesis of Carcinoma of the vermilion lip. Methods: Average cell count with positive expression for CD3, CD8, CD20 and CD68.

Body height and the excess cancer risk in men

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? In cancers that affect both sexes, men usually have a higher risk than women. While this is often attributed to behavioral factors, such as exposure to environmental carcinogens, there may be an intrinsic biological mechanism involved. Tall stature has been associated with increased cancer risk.

Cause‐specific mortality after a diagnosis of ductal carcinoma in situ: Associations with screening and socio‐economic status

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) fails to progress to invasive breast cancer (IBC) in about four‐fifths of women. Nonetheless, once advanced to IBC, risk of death increases. Here, the authors investigated breast cancer mortality in Dutch women with DCIS in light of potential associations with socioeconomic status (SES) and DCIS detection ...

Incidence and temporal trends of depression and anxiety following cancer diagnosis in Japan: Insights from the LIFE study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? Depression and anxiety are common but often under‐recognized among cancer patients. Using claims data from 14 municipalities in Japan, this study clarified the incidence and temporal trends of these conditions following cancer diagnosis over a 24‐month follow‐up period.

Oral cancer risk stratification: A cross‐sectional population‐based screening study in Northeast India

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? Oral cancer burden is high in India. Risk stratification for selection of high‐risk individuals could enable early detection through efficient screening programs. We conducted a cross‐sectional screening study in Northeast India to develop and validate an oral precancer/cancer risk prediction model.

Regulation of pyruvate dehydrogenase complex: Dancing to different drums in cancer

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
Abstract Mechanisms governing the regulation of pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC) are markedly modified in cancer cells compared to normal cells. PDC activity in normal cells is controlled by the reversible phosphorylation of three serine residues by dedicated kinases and phosphatases.

Analysis of the experimental absorption spectrum of the rabbit lung and identification of its components

open access: yesJournal of Biophotonics, EarlyView.
The broadband absorption coefficient spectrum of the rabbit lung was reconstructed from the absorption spectra of tissue components. The similar accumulation of melanin and lipofuscin was retrieved from the broadband baseline in the absorption coefficient spectrum, and the calculation of the absorption fold ratios for proteins, DNA and hemoglobin ...

Sonographic localisation of lymph nodes suspicious of metastatic breast cancer to surgical axillary levels

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, Volume 72, Issue 1, Page 119-138, March 2025.
Sonographic imaging is used to identify the presence, number and location of malignant lymph nodes. Axillary lymph nodes suspicious of harbouring breast cancer metastasis can be localised to three surgical axillary levels. This paper will unpack the axillary anatomy, muscular sonographic landmarks, surgical axillary lymph node levels and the ...
