The role of lipid profile as an early indicator of preeclampsia

open access: yesJournal of Current Research in Scientific Medicine, 2022
Background: Preeclampsia is called the “disease of theories” because its direct cause is still debated. Among all maternal deaths worldwide, 19% of deaths are due to hypertension during pregnancy (World Health Organization 2014).

Lipid ion channels and the role of proteins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Synthetic lipid membranes in the absence of proteins can display quantized conduction events for ions that are virtually indistinguishable from those of protein channel. By indistinguishable we mean that one cannot decide based on the current trace alone

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Transport Characteristics of patients on automated peritoneal dialysis may not affect their lipid profile

open access: yesSaudi Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences, 2013
Introduction: End-stage renal disease patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis usually have significant hyperlipidemia. The peritoneal membrane permeability and residual renal function (RRF) may affect lipid profile in these patients. Objective: To study

Manual pressing of nannochloropsis oculata dried biomass for enhanced lipid extraction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Microalgae offer significant potential to produce high value products and biofuels, whilst simultaneously being used to bio-remediate water or capture carbon dioxide (CO2).

Reduction of circulating cholesterol and apolipoprotein levels during sepsis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Sepsis with multiple organ failure is frequently associated with a substantial decrease of cholesterol levels. This decrease of cholesterol is strongly associated with mortality suggesting a direct relation between inflammatory conditions and altered ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Effects of gabergic phenols on the dynamic and structure of lipid bilayers: A molecular dynamic simulation approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the vertebrate and invertebrate nervous system. GABAA receptors are activated by GABA and their agonists, and modulated by a wide variety of recognized drugs, including barbiturates ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.
