Lipid composition of peanut seeds (Arachis hypogaea L.) obtained under different situations of water availability

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2000
The changes in the lipid composition, oleic/linoleic ratio (O/L) and iodine value (IY) for Florman INTA peanut seeds of different sizes obtained under two different water availability conditions during reproductive period were, evaluated.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Effect of Cigarette Smoking on Blood Levels of Lipid and Atherogenic Lipid Ratios

open access: yesNational Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 2020
Introduction: Lipid profile changes are a major risk factor for the cardiovascular diseases with the increase in sedentary life style and smoking. Smoking may lead to alter the normal plasma lipoprotein pattern. Aim: To evaluate the lipid profile and atherogenic lipid ratios in the cigarette smokers.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Waist-to-height ratio versus waist-to-hip ratio in predicting serum lipid concentration and cardiovascular risk factors in adult females

open access: yesNational Journal of Physiology, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 2019
Background: The prevalence of dyslipidemia has been on a continuous rise in recent years in both developing and developed countries. Among all other risk factors, obesity tops them all, placing the individual at risk for developing cardiovascular ...

Preparation of the Dexamethasone-incorporated Lipid Nanosphere: Characteristics of Lipid Nanosphere by Varying Species and Ratio of Lipid

open access: yesJournal of the Korean Chemical Society, 2006
the coricosteroid drug dexamethasone is an efficacious antiinflammatory drug, it is difficult to formulate in an injectable formulation due to its poor aqueous solubility. A lipid-based nanosphere formulation containing dexamethasone was designed for solubilization of the drug in aqueous solution and sustained release of the drug from the nanosphere ...

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Analysis of Reference Range Values of Lipid Profile and Lipid Ratio in Healthy Young Adult Population in Makassar, Indonesia

open access: yesNational Journal of Community Medicine
Background: Lipids are essential for energy, hormones, digestion, and cell structure. A reference range of population-specific lipid profiles is essential due to variations. This study aimed to determine reference ranges for lipid profiles and ratios in

Time‐restricted feeding prior to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection reduces tissue CD4+ T cells with limited impact on bacterial clearance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) in mice increased liver fatty acid oxidation and decreased fatty acid biosynthesis. These alterations persisted when TRF was discontinued and the host was infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pre‐exposure to TRF did not alter tissue (lung and spleen) mycobacterial burden but significantly reduced CD3+ T cells in lungs

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.
