Resveratrol Modifies Lipid Composition of Two Cancer Cell Lines

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
Resveratrol (Resv) offers health benefits in cancer and has been reported to modulate important enzymes of lipid metabolism. Studies of its effects on lipid composition in different subtypes of breast‐cancer cells are scarce. Thus, we investigated the alterations in phospholipids (PL), fatty acids (FA), and lipid metabolism enzymes in two breast‐cancer

Lipoprotein(a) and stroke: a two-sample Mendelian randomization study

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2023
BackgroundTo evaluate the causal relationship between lipoprotein(a) Lp(a) and stroke risk.MethodAdopting two grand scale genome-wide association study (GWAS) databases, the instrumental variables were selected on the basis that the genetic loci met the ...

Lipoprotein(a) in Cardiovascular Diseases: Insight From a Bibliometric Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2022
Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is a complex polymorphic lipoprotein comprised of a low-density lipoprotein particle with one molecule of apolipoprotein B100 and an additional apolipoprotein(a) connected through a disulfide bond. The serum concentration is mostly

Lipoprotein(a), a Lethal Player in Calcific Aortic Valve Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2022
Calcified aortic valve disease (CAVD) is the most common valvular cardiovascular disease with increasing incidence and mortality. The primary treatment for CAVD is surgical or transcatheter aortic valve replacement and there remains a lack of effective ...

Familial Hypercholesterolemia and Lipoprotein(a): A Gordian Knot in Cardiovascular Prevention

open access: yesMetabolites, 2022
Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is the most frequent genetic disorder resulting in increased low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels from childhood, leading to premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) if left untreated.

Mycobacterium leprae intracellular survival relies on cholesterol accumulation in infected macrophages: a potential target for new drugs for leprosy treatment

open access: yesCellular Microbiology, Volume 16, Issue 6, Page 797-815, June 2014., 2014
The accumulation of lipids in Mycobacterium leprae‐infected cells is a hallmark of lepromatous leprosy. We herein found that M. leprae increases cholesterol de novo synthesis and the uptake of exogenous cholesterol in infected macrophages by upregulating the expression of host genes involved in these pathways. Notably, cholesterol metabolism impairment

Optimization of Phenolics Extracted from Idesia polycarpa Defatted Fruit Residue and Its Antioxidant and Depigmenting Activity In Vitro and In Vivo

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
Extraction of phenolics from Idesia polycarpa defatted fruit residue was optimized by the maximization of the yield in total phenolics, using the response surface methodology. The optimized conditions were 50% ethanol, 5 h extraction time, 1 : 40 liquid to solid ratio, and 80°C extraction temperature.
