Dedifferentiated liposarcoma is a high-grade nonlipogenic sarcoma that arises in a background of a preexisting well-differentiated liposarcoma. The phenomenon of dedifferentiation is time dependent, and primary or de novo tumors exceed secondary neoplasms in a ratio of 9:1.

The diagnosis of retroperitoneal fatty tumour is not extremely difficult provided that the possibility of its presence is kept in mind by the surgeon in all cases of distended abdomen in an apparently well‐nourished patient. A careful clinical examination and a good excretory Myelogram arc very important in the diagnosis.
