Reusable Lignin‐Derived Free‐Standing Carbon Nanofiber Sulfur Hosts via Carbonization Engineering for Sustainable Lithium–Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, Volume 10, Issue 9, September 2026.
Lignin has been valorized into free‐standing sulfur cathodes via a sustainable electrospinning‐assisted nanofiber synthesis. The flexible electrode allows homogeneous sulfur distribution, promotes polysulfide confinement, and can be effectively reused in new coin cells.

Formation of Laser‐Induced Periodic Surface Structures on Titanium Alloy Using a Picosecond Laser: Dependence on Fluence and Number of Laser Pulses

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces
Laser ablation is a widely used technique for the fabrication of periodic structures on solids to manipulate their surface properties. A fundamental challenge in the formation of laser‐induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) is ascertaining the ...

Laser‐Patterned Antibacterial Microgrids With Silver Nanoparticles for Autonomous Sterilization on Public Escalator Belts

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT The past few decades have witnessed multiple outbreaks of pandemics. Hygiene in public facilities is one of the key factors in maintaining public health security. Escalator belts, as frequently touched by passengers, become a potential medium for spreading pathogens.

Multi‐Objective Collaborative Process Optimization Based on Deep Learning of Laser In Situ Forging Additive Manufacturing Ti‐6Al‐4V

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Aiming at the problems of insufficient forming quality and poor surface performance in the preparation of Ti‐6Al‐4V alloy by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), this study proposed a laser in situ forging additive manufacturing (LIF‐AM) technology, which integrates LPBF with femtosecond laser in situ shock forging and realizes defect control and ...

The role of unidirectional surface roughness on the regularity of LIPSS generated on stainless steel using femtosecond lasers

open access: yesScientific Reports
Laser induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) are directional and periodic nanostructures generated in most materials when irradiated with linear polarized laser beams under certain irradiation conditions.

Propagation of broadband light pulses through LIPSS nanoripples fabricated on diamond

open access: yes, 2022
We study the propagation of coherent broadband light through laser induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) fabricated in diamond, by comparing the performance of the laser generated nanostructures with sinusoidal ideal structures in the near-IR.

Antimicrobial Surfaces for Reusable Food Packaging: A Comprehensive Review of Functionality and Suitability

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT With the recent introduction of the European Union's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) in February 2025, reusable plastic packaging schemes have gained increasing attention as a more circular and sustainable alternative to single‐use plastics (SUPs).

Influence of Polishing Orientation on the Generation of LIPSS on Stainless Steel

open access: yesJournal of Laser Micro/Nanoengineering, 2016
We report on the influence of different angles between the electrical field of the impinging laser and the polishing direction of linearly polished surfaces on the generation of low spatial frequency LIPSS on stainless steel. The electrical field is rotated in a range of 0° to 90° with respect to the polishing direction and its effect on the ...

Tribological Properties of High-Speed Uniform Femtosecond Laser Patterning on Stainless Steel

open access: yesLubricants, 2019
In this work, an analysis of the tribological performance of laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) treated X5CrNi1810 stainless steel was conducted. The approach followed by authors was to generate LIPSS-patterned circular tracks, composed of
