Phase Equilibrium and Optimization Tools: Application for Enhanced Structured Lipids for Foods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Solid-liquid phase equilibrium modeling of triacylglycerols mixtures is essential for lipids design. Considering the α polymorphism and liquid phase as ideal, the Margules 2-suffix excess Gibbs energy model with predictive binary parameter correlations ...

Modeling of Phase and Chemical Equilibria for Systems Involved in Biodiesel Production

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2015
In recent years, the interest in the use of renewable energy has encouraged the growth of studies into renewable sources, such as the production of biofuels. This work investigates the vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE), vapor-liquid-liquid equilibrium (VLLE)

Liquid–Liquid Equilibrium Data and Continuous Process Concept for the Electrosynthesis of Valeric Acid from Levulinic Acid

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2020
Aiming toward a scalable continuous electrochemical production of valeric acid, the mutual insolubility of valeric acid with the aqueous reaction medium of levulinic acid and the aqueous electrolyte are investigated in order to assess the possibility for

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Non-equilibrium molecular-dynamics measurement of the Leslie coefficients of a Gay-Berne nematic liquid crystal

open access: yes, 2007
Using non- equilibrium molecular- dynamics ( MD) simulations, we have measured the six Leslie coefficients of a nematic liquid crystal composed of molecules interacting via the Gay Berne potential.

HIx system thermodynamic model for hydrogen production by the sulfur-iodine cycle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The HIx ternary system (H2O – HI – I2) is the latent source of hydrogen for the Sulfur – Iodine thermo-chemical cycle. After analysis of the literature data and models, a homogeneous approach with the Peng-Robinson equation of state used for both the ...

A study on phase equilibria in the CaO-Al2O3-SiO2-“Nb2O5”(5 mass pct) system in reducing atmosphere [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mining and Metallurgy. Section B: Metallurgy, 2013
Phase equilibria in 5 mass% “Nb2O5” plane of CaO-Al2O3-SiO2-“Nb2O5” system at 1873 K in an oxygen partial pressure of 1.78×10-6 Pa have been investigated through isothermal equilibration and quenching followed by EPMA examinations.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...
