Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Gas-holdup in a 16.6 cm I.D. reciprocating plate column [PDF]

open access: yesHemijska Industrija, 2005
The effects of operation conditions (the vibration intensity and gas flow rate) on the gas holdup in a 16.6 cm i.d. two-phase reciprocating plate column (RPC) were studied.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

CFD study and experimental validation of low liquid-loading flow assurance in oil and gas transport: studying the effect of fluid properties and operating conditions on flow variables

open access: yesHeliyon, 2020
Low liquid-loading flow frequently occurs during the transport of gas products in various industries, such as in the Oil & Gas, the Food, and the Pharmaceutical Industries.

Improved Two-Fluid Model for Segregated Flow and Integrated Multiphase Flow Modeling for Downhole Pressure Predictions

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
This work presents an integrated multiphase flow model for downhole pressure predictions with the purpose of producing relatively more accurate predictions under wide-flowing conditions while maintaining a simple form.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Numerical Simulation of Gas-Liquid Flow in a Bubble Column by Intermittent Aeration in Newtonian Liquid/Non-Newtonian Liquid

open access: yesInternational Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2018
The dynamic behaviors of gas-liquid two-phase flow were simulated in a lab-scale intermittent bubble column by Euler-Euler two-fluid model coupled with the PBM (population balance model) using two different liquid phases, i.e., Newtonian fluid (water ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Modeling gas holdup in a multiphase oxygen slurry bubble column reactor for Cu-Cl hydrogen production using CFD

open access: yesResults in Engineering
The hydrodynamics of the oxygen bubble column reactor is investigated numerically using CFD analyses to predict the values of the gas holdup using Eulerian model and k−ε turbulence method.

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in
