Adaptive dielectric liquid lens

open access: yesOptics Express, 2008
A tunable-focus liquid lens using dielectrophoretic effect is demonstrated. When a voltage is applied to a dielectric liquid droplet, the generated electric field inside the droplet is inhomogeneous. As a result, the liquid bears a dielectric force and its surface profile can be reshaped which causes the focal length to change.

Photoaligned Tunable Liquid Crystal Lenses with Parabolic Phase Profile

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
We present a theoretical model of a cylindrical tunable liquid crystal lens based on the modulation of anchoring energy. The latter can be easily obtained using photoalignment techniques.

Optimization of Zoom Lens with Discrete State of Liquid Lens Elements by Using Genetic Algorithm [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2015
This paper is to employ liquid lens elements to design a lens with zoom function by using the genetic algorithm (GA) optimization. The liquid lens elements used in the proposal can apply voltage adjustment to generate the electrical field that induces ...

A Fast-Response and Helicity-Dependent Lens Enabled by Micro-Patterned Dual-Frequency Liquid Crystals

open access: yesCrystals, 2019
Liquid crystals are excellent candidates for tunable optical elements due to their large birefringence and continuous tunability by external fields. A dual-frequency liquid crystal lens integrated with Pancharatnam⁻Berry phase was fabricated via a ...

Tunable Focus Liquid Lens with Radial-Patterned Electrode

open access: yesMicromachines, 2015
A dielectric liquid lens is prepared based on our previous work. By optimizing the device structure, the liquid lens presents a converging focus with good resolution and changes its focal length over a broad range with a low driving voltage. For a liquid

A Novel Lens for Cell Volume Regulation: Liquid–Liquid Phase Separation

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2021
Cells are constantly exposed to the risk of volume perturbation under physiological conditions. The increase or decrease in cell volume accompanies intracellular changes in cell membrane tension, ionic strength/concentration and macromolecular crowding.

Movable and Focus-Tunable Lens Based on Electrically Controllable Liquid: A Lattice Boltzmann Study

open access: yesEntropy, 2022
Adjusting the focal length by changing the liquid interface of the liquid lens has become a potential method. In this paper, the lattice-Boltzmann-electrodynamic (LB-ED) method is used to numerically investigate the zooming process of a movable and focus-

Self-Similar Liquid Lens Coalescence [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2020
A basic feature of liquid drops is that they can merge upon contact to form a larger drop. In spite of its importance to various applications, drop coalescence on pre-wetted substrates has received little attention. Here, we experimentally and theoretically reveal the dynamics of drop coalescence on a thick layer of a low-viscosity liquid.

Holographic Zoom System With Large Focal Depth Based on Adjustable Lens

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
In this paper, we propose a holographic zoom system based on two adjustable lenses. Different from the traditional holographic system, a digital conical lens and a liquid lens are used as the zoomable lenses.
