Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

CHANGE OF MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THIN-LAYER MEMBRANES UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF LIQUID MEDIUM

open access: yesStructural Mechanics of Engineering Constructions and Buildings, 2017
Thin-layer membranes and membrane compositions find application in different indus- tries as independent design elements and as coatings. With the development of new technolo- gies, functional coatings are become increasingly widespread.

High-Throughput Isolation of Giant Viruses in Liquid Medium Using Automated Flow Cytometry and Fluorescence Staining

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2016
The isolation of giant viruses using amoeba co-culture is tedious and fastidious. Recently, the procedure was successfully associated with a method that detects amoebal lysis on agar plates. However, the procedure remains time-consuming and is limited to

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Method and device for detection of surface discontinuities or defects [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
Surface discontinuities of defects such as cracks and orifices are detected by applying a penetrating fluid, preferably a liquid, to a test surface so as to cause the liquid to penetrate any minute cracks or opening in the surface, removing the excess ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Light spectrum effects on micropropagation and gene expression of Bucephalandra sp. in a temporary immersion system for sustainable production

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Bucephalandra sp. ‘Wavy Dark Green’ is a commercially valuable ornamental aquatic plant with limited propagation potential due to low multiplication rates and acclimatization challenges. This study aimed to developed an integrated tissue culture protocol

Correlation effects during liquid infiltration into hydrophobic nanoporous mediums

open access: yes, 2010
Correlation effects arising during liquid infiltration into hydrophobic porous medium are considered. On the basis of these effects a mechanism of energy absorption at filling porous medium by nonwetting liquid is suggested.
