Studies into the separation of the component metals of chrome residue [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Chrome residue, the disposal product of a chrome ore pyrometallurgical extraction process, contains a number of valuable metals in oxide form. The bulk extraction of the main metals in residue is investigated by acid dissolution, followed by solvent ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

First principles determination of some static and dynamic properties of the liquid 3d transition metals near melting

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2020
We report an ab initio molecular dynamics simulation study of several static and dynamic properties of the liquid 3d transition metals. The calculated static structure factors show qualitative agreement with the available experimental data, and its ...

Methane to Liquid Fuels over Metal Loaded HZSM-5 Catalyst [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
ZSM-5 zeolite is an acidic catalyst that is highly potential for the conversion of natural gas to liquid fuels. One of the variables that controls the acidity of the ZSM-5 is its Si/Al ratio.

Reference Data for the Density and Viscosity of Liquid Cadmium, Cobalt, Gallium, Indium, Mercury, Silicon, Thallium, and Zinc

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, the available experimental data for the density and viscosity of liquid cadmium, cobalt, gallium, indium, mercury, silicon, thallium, and zinc have been critically examined with the intention of establishing a density and a viscosity ...

Colloquium : disclination loops, point defects, and all that in nematic liquid crystals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The homotopy theory of topological defects is a powerful tool for organizing and unifying many ideas across a broad range of physical systems. Recently, experimental progress was made in controlling and measuring colloidal inclusions in liquid ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.
