A novel solar-powered liquid piston Stirling refrigerator
Applied Energy, 2018The objective of this research project is to develop a solar-powered refrigerator in the lower capacity range of up to 5 kW of cooling power. With the use of liquid pistons and one of the most efficient thermodynamic cycles known, the Stirling cycle ...

Advances in Automated Piston Liquid-Liquid Microextraction Technique
Journal of Chromatography A, 2021A new automated micro liquid-liquid extraction technique was successfully developed. This novel syringe-based technique capitalizes on the advantages of vigorous fluid agitation and the shearing effect of two fluids with different properties to achieve high extraction efficiency.

Reduction of global carbon dioxide emissions is one of the most critical challenges for realizing sustainable society. In order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, energy efficiency must be improved. Waste heat recovery with external combustion engine is expected to be one of the promising technologies for efficient energy utilization.

Electromagnetic liquid pistons for capillarity-based pumping
Lab Chip, 2011The small scales associated with lab-on-a-chip technologies lend themselves well to capillarity-dominated phenomena. We demonstrate a new capillarity-dominated system where two adjoining ferrofluid droplets can behave as an electronically-controlled oscillator or switch by an appropriate balance of magnetic, capillary, and inertial forces.

Liquid Piston Stirling Engines
1985The Fluidyne liquid piston engine is a simple free-piston Stirling engine that can be made from nothing more than some lengths of tubing. The pistons are liquid, so they always fit the cylinder exactly with no need for machining, close tolerances, mechanical seals or bearings. On the other hand, the liquid piston engine in its simplest form operates at

ASME 2009 Dynamic Systems and Control Conference, Volume 2, 2009
A dynamic model of a free liquid piston that exploits piston geometry to produce a high inertance was developed for use in a free piston engine compressor. It is shown that for the size scale targeted, advantageous piston dynamics can be achieved with a reduced piston mass compared to a rigid piston design.

Experimental study of heat transfer enhancement in liquid piston compressor using aqueous foam
Applied Thermal Engineering, 2020Efficiency of gas compression can be significantly improved by achieving isothermal compression. A high heat transfer rate in the compression chamber is desired to achieve the isothermal compression process.

Plunging Cylinder Liquid Piston Stirling Engine
22nd Intersociety Energy Conversion Engineering Conference, 1987A Stirling engine has cylinders with closed upper ends and open lower ends. The cylinders are plunged out of phase into tanks of fluids at different temperatures. A connecting tube extends through the tanks and upward through the fluids into the cylinders to allow a working gas to be displaced between cylinders through the connecting tube.
