Liquid scintillator calorimetry for the LHC

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 1995
Abstract We report on the beam tests of full scale liquid scintillator modules designed for a very forward calorimeter for an experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Tests were performed in the electron beams of the SPS at CERN within the 20 and 150 GeV energy range.

Cherenkov and scintillation light separation in organic liquid scintillators

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal C, 2017
The CHErenkov / Scintillation Separation experiment (CHESS) has been used to demonstrate the separation of Cherenkov and scintillation light in both linear alkylbenzene (LAB) and LAB with 2g/L of PPO as a fluor (LAB/PPO). This is the first such demonstration for the more challenging LAB/PPO cocktail and improves on previous results for LAB.

Development of time-of-flight neutron detector with fast-decay and low-afterglow scintillator for fast ignition experiment

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2013
A fast-decay and low-afterglow liquid scintillator was developed for the fast ignition experiment at the Institute of Laser Engineering (ILE). The liquid scintillator was coupled to a gated photomultiplier (PMT), and the gating performance under high ...

Opium trade and use during the Late Bronze Age: Organic residue analysis of ceramic vessels from the burials of Tel Yehud, Israel

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Organic residue analysis was conducted on various vessels from burials at Tel Yehud, Israel. The analyses led to new reliable evidence for the presence of opioid alkaloids and their decomposition products. This research revitalizes a decades‐old discussion on the presence and function of the opium trade across a cultural region of utmost ...

Scintillating properties of frozen new liquid scintillators [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 1999
Abstract The light emission from scintillators which are liquid at room temperature was studied in the interval between +20°C and −120°C where the phase transition from liquid to solid takes place. The light yield measured at −120°C is about twice as much as that observed at +20°C.

Unraveling 4‐Phenylbutyrate's Therapeutic Role in SLC6A1 Disorders: Pharmacochaperoning Over HDAC Inhibition

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Variants in SLC6A1, encoding the GABA transporter 1 (GAT‐1), cause epilepsy, autism spectrum disorder, and developmental delay via loss of GABA uptake, impaired trafficking, and ER retention. We previously found that 4‐Phenylbutyrate (PBA), an FDA‐approved drug, restores GABA uptake and reduces seizures in SLC6A1‐related disorders ...

Solution‐Processed Mn‐Doped 2d Perovskite Wavelength Shifters for Noble‐Liquid Photon Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Solution‐processed Mn2+‐doped PEA2PbBr4 two‐dimensional perovskite films are demonstrated as large‐area wavelength shifters for noble‐liquid photon detectors. Mn2+ incorporation introduces a broad emission band at ∼620 nm with a large Stokes shift, suppressing self‐absorption and matching SiPM sensitivity.

e- discrimination at high energy in the JUNO detector [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2019
Cosmic Ray and neutrino oscillation physics can be studied by using atmospheric neutrinos. JUNO (Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory) is a large liquid scintillator detector with low energy detection threshold and excellent energy resolution.
