Fluorescence emission of the JUNO liquid scintillator [PDF]

open access: yes
JUNO is a huge neutrino detector that will use 20 kton of organic liquid scintillator as its detection medium. The scintillator is a mixture of linear alkyl benzene (LAB), 2.5 g/L of 2,5-diphenyloxazole (PPO) and 3 mg/L of 1,4-Bis(2-methylstyryl)benzene (

The scintillation of liquid argon [PDF]

open access: yesEPL (Europhysics Letters), 2010
A spectroscopic study of liquid argon from the vacuum ultraviolet at 110 nm to 1000 nm is presented. Excitation was performed using continuous and pulsed 12 keV electron beams. The emission is dominated by the analogue of the so called 2nd excimer continuum. Various additional emission features were found.

Sensitivity to neutrino-antineutrino transitions for boron neutrinos

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 2019
Neutrino-antineutrino conversion is an important new physics process. The observation of this phenomenon could indicate total lepton number violation and potential CPT-violation. Searching for the appearance of electron antineutrinos from solar neutrinos

A universal energy response model for determining the energy nonlinearity and resolution of $$e^\pm $$ e ± and $$\gamma $$ γ in liquid scintillator detectors

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2023
Energy nonlinearity and resolution in liquid scintillator (LS) detectors are correlated and particle-dependent. A unified energy response model for liquid scintillator detectors has been presented in details.

Cherenkov and scintillation light separation in organic liquid scintillators

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal C, 2017
The CHErenkov / Scintillation Separation experiment (CHESS) has been used to demonstrate the separation of Cherenkov and scintillation light in both linear alkylbenzene (LAB) and LAB with 2g/L of PPO as a fluor (LAB/PPO). This is the first such demonstration for the more challenging LAB/PPO cocktail and improves on previous results for LAB.

Labeling strategy to improve neutron/gamma discrimination with organic scintillator

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2023
Organic scintillators are widely used for neutron/gamma detection. Pulse shape discrimination algorithms have been commonly used to discriminate the detected radiations.

Development of time-of-flight neutron detector with fast-decay and low-afterglow scintillator for fast ignition experiment

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2013
A fast-decay and low-afterglow liquid scintillator was developed for the fast ignition experiment at the Institute of Laser Engineering (ILE). The liquid scintillator was coupled to a gated photomultiplier (PMT), and the gating performance under high ...

Deep Learning for Liquid-Scintillator-Based Double-Beta Decay Searches

open access: yes, 2018
Liquid scintillator-based detectors are one of the leading detector technologies in the search for neutrinoless double beta decay. They are currently limited by naturally occurring and spallation induced backgrounds. In the future they will be limited by
