NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF 2D LIQUID SLOSHING

International Journal of Applied Mechanics, 2012
In this paper, we present an extended ghost fluid method (GFM) for computations of liquid sloshing in incompressible multifluids consisting of inviscid and viscous regions. That is, the sloshing interface between inviscid and viscous fluids is tracked by the zero contour of a level set function and the appropriate sloshing interface conditions are ...

Liquid sloshing in rectangular road containers

Computers & Fluids, 1992
Abstract A study of liquid behaviour in rectangular road containers undergoing a turning or braking manoeuvre is presented and discussed. The steady-state solution in terms of liquid heights, forces and overturning moments is derived analytically from the hydrostatic equations.

Accurate Measurement of Nonlinear Liquid Sloshing

AIAA Journal, 2015
The accurate measurement of nonlinear liquid sloshing in a liquid-filled spacecraft is of importance for precise flight control. In this paper, a novel noncontact method combining the fringe transmission technique with the liquid-level reflection technique has been developed to accurately evaluate such behavior. To do this, a printed fringe pattern was

Some studies of magnetic liquid sloshing

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1987
Abstract The results of the experimental studies of magnetic fluid behavior in the laterally vibrated rectangular and cylindrical containers subject to magnetic fields are presented. Some effects of applied fields on fluid surface responses in the rectangular container and disappearance of drops on the fluid surface in the cylindrical container are ...

Optimal Control of Sloshing Liquids

1998
This paper is concerned with optimal trajectory path planning for the motion of open, fluid filled containers moving in two dimensional space. The fluid and the mechanical facility that moves the container are subject to several constraints. The objective of the optimisation is a minimisation of time to transport the container from an initial position ...

Recent Advances in Liquid Sloshing Dynamics

Applied Mechanics Reviews, 2001
A liquid free surface in partially filled containers can experience a wide spectrum of motions such as planar, non-planar, rotational, quasi-periodic, chaotic, and disintegration. Civil engineers and seismologists have been studying liquid sloshing effects on large dams, oil tanks and elevated water towers under ground motion.

LIQUID SLOSHING IN A CYLINDRICAL QUARTER TANK

AIAA Journal, 1963
With the increasing size of space vehicles and their larger diameter, both of which lower the natural frequencies of the propellants, the effects of propellant sloshing upon the stability of the vehicle are becoming more critical, especially since at launch usually a very large amount of the total mass is in the form of liquid propellant.

Sloshing of liquids in cylindrical tanks

AIAA Journal, 1984
In this note, we discuss a method recently developed by the authors [Siam J. Math. Anal. 9, 768-773 (1978; Zbl 0409.65046)] that leads to a simple but effective procedure for estimating the sloshing frequencies with rigorous error bounds.

A Software Application forĀ Fast Liquid-Sloshing Simulation

2022
This paper presents a software application to execute fast simulations of liquid sloshing in cylindrical and rectangular containers. The application is developed based on our previous works [1, 2], and it is particularly suitable to simulate the liquid behavior in fast rectilinear intermittent movements typical of automatic packaging machines.
