Progesterone Injection Assay by Liquid Chromatography

An assay was developed for the progesterone content of injections composed of refined, fixed oils as the primary solvent. Reversed-phase, high-pressure liquid chromatography separates the progesterone from all other known ingredients following initial extraction into aqueous ethanol. Precise, rugged, stability-indicating HPLC assays were developed for phenobarbital, pentobarbital, and secobarbital sodium injections. Degradation products of the three barbiturates were prepared and chromatographed to demonstrate method specificity.
