Reversible Hydration Tuning of Polar Order and Large Nonlinear Optical Response in a 2D van der Waals Crystal, LiInP2S6

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Hydration‐induced symmetry breaking transforms layered LiInP2S6${\rm LiInP}_2{\rm S}_6$ from a nonpolar to a chiral‐polar phase, producing a giant enhancement of non‐resonant second‐harmonic generation. The reversible tuning of polar order through molecular intercalation establishes a strategy for dynamically controlling nonlinear optical ...

Synchroneity of major late Neogene sea level fluctuations and paleoceanographically controlled changes as recorded by two carbonate platforms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Shallow-water carbonate systems are reliable recorders of sea level fluctuations and changes in ambient seawater conditions. Drilling results from Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Legs 133 and 166 indicate that the timing of late Neogene sedimentary breaks ...

Ferrous Pyrophosphate Hollow Nanorods Enable Lithium Metal Batteries Under Low Negative/Positive Capacity Ratios

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
N‐doped carbon‐coated ferrous pyrophosphate (Fe2P2O7@NC) hollow nanorods are rationally synthesized through a self‐template method. The Fe2P2O7@NC hollow nanorods facilitate uniform Li deposition as a Li host by generating LiF on the electrode/electrolyte interface, and form Li2O in the bulk phase of the electrode.

UV laser radiation inhibits domain inversion in lithium niobate

open access: yes, 2008
Continuous wave UV laser (λ=244 nm) irradiation of the +z face of lithium niobate single crystals inhibits ferroelectric domain inversion in the volume of the crystal which lies immediately below the UV exposed ...

Angstrom‐Scale Confined Ion Sieve and Accelerator for Efficient Aqueous Zinc Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An angstrom‐scale confined ion accelerator strategy is proposed for ultra‐stable aqueous Zn anodes. Selective and precise transport of hydrated Zn(H2O)62+, Zn2+ cations, H2O molecules, and SO42− anions is achieved by in‐plane atomic Ti vacancies and angstrom‐scale interlayer free spacing within the Ti0.87O2 interfacial layer, leading to homogeneous Zn ...

Tubular carbonate concretions as hydrocarbon migration pathways? Examples from North Island, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Cold seep carbonate deposits are associated with the development on the sea floor of distinctive chemosyn¬thetic animal communities and carbonate minerali¬sation as a consequence of microbially mediated anaerobic oxidation of methane.

MOOD STABILIZER AGENT LITHIUM CARBONATE DEPLETES REDUCED GLUTATHIONE IN HUMAM ERYTHROCYTES DURING LITHIUM TOXICITIES

open access: yesGomal Journal of Medical Sciences, 2015
Background: Lithium carbonate is commonly used as mood stabilizing agent but it is so toxic that even its therapeutic dose can cause toxicity. Present work was design with the aim that whether it has any affect on reduced form of glutathione in human ...

Establishing Atomic Coherence in Twisted Oxide Membranes Containing Volatile Elements

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Twisted oxide membranes containing volatile elements often suffer from amorphous interfacial dead layers that suppress coupling. An oxygen‐annealing strategy establishes atomically coherent and chemically bonded interfaces in twisted NaNbO3 membranes, enabling coherent oxide moiré architectures in volatile‐element‐containing systems.

Decomposing lithium carbonate with a mobile catalyst

open access: yes, 2017
The accumulation of insulating lithium carbonate (Li2CO3) in the air cathode is one of the major obstacles hindering the long-term operation of Li-air batteries.
