Lithium abundances in nearby FGK dwarf and subgiant stars: internal destruction, Galactic chemical evolution, and exoplanets

open access: yes, 2012
We derive atmospheric parameters and lithium abundances for 671 stars and include our measurements in a literature compilation of 1381 dwarf and subgiant stars. First, a "lithium desert" in the effective temperature (Teff) versus lithium abundance (A_Li)

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

Lithiophilic Modification of Self-Supporting Carbon-Based Hosts and Lithium Metal Plating/Stripping Behaviors

open access: yesNanomaterials
Metallic lithium anodes possess the lowest redox potential (−3.04 V vs. SHE) and an ultra-high theoretical capacity (3860 mAh g−1, 2061 mAh cm−3). However, during electrochemical cycling, lithium metal tends to plate unevenly, leading to the formation of

Li isotopes in metal-poor halo dwarfs, a more and more complicated story [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The nuclei of the lithium isotopes are fragile, easily destroyed, so that, at variance with most of the other elements, they cannot be formed in stars through steady hydrostatic nucleosynthesis.

Multi‐Faceted Binder Enhancement via Slurry‐Applicable Thiol‐Ene Click Chemistry for Low‐Pressure‐Operable All‐Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cross‐linked binders with enhanced resiliencies under low operating pressures are designed via in situ thiol‐ene click reactions within slurries. Cross‐linking improves the Young's moduli and elasticities of the styrene‐butadiene rubber binders, effectively mitigating interparticle delamination within the composite cathodes induced by volumetric ...

A jigsaw-structured artificial solid electrolyte interphase for high-voltage lithium metal batteries

open access: yesCommunications Materials, 2023
Lithium-metal batteries are hindered by their insufficient Coulombic efficiency and uncontrollable dendrite growth. Here, a multi-component jigsaw-like artificial solid electrolyte interphase was constructed that regulates lithium-ion transport and ...

Grain Boundary Space Charge Engineering of Solid Oxide Electrolytes: Model Thin Film Study

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates unprecedented control of grain boundary electrical properties in solid electrolytes. Selective diffusion of cations through grain boundaries in thin films enables 12 orders of magnitude variation in ionic resistance, proving that systematic chemical modification of grain boundary electrical properties is feasible.

A new optical recording medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
Method has been developed for doping lithium niobiate crystals with transition metal to increase rate at which crystal can record optical data. Discovery may facilitate development of system for analog storage of TV frames, printed pages, photographs ...

New Keck Observations of Lithium in Very Metal-poor Stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Lithium abundances have been determined in more than 100 metal-poor halo stars both in the field and in clusters. From these data we find trends of Li with both temperature and metallicity and a real dispersion in Li abundances in the Spite Li plateau ...
