The genotoxicity and cytotoxicity of tannery effluent in bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus)
Chemosphere, 2017Some of the most polluting activities occur in bovine skin processing. Tannery generates effluents containing high concentrations of heavy metals and organic compounds. The phases composing the leather production process generate a large volume of tannery effluents that are often discarded in aquatic environments without any previous treatment. However,

Glycosaminoglycans and glycoconjugates in the adult anuran integument (Lithobates catesbeianus)
Micron, 2010Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) from the integument of Lithobates catesbeianus were biochemically characterized and histochemically localized. Moreover, carbohydrate distribution was investigated using conventional and lectin histochemistry at light microscopy. Hyaluronan (HA), dermatan sulfate (DS) and a heparanoid were found in the integument. Sulfated and

CARDIOVASCULAR EFFECTS OF ALFAXALONE AND PROPOFOL IN THE BULLFROG,LITHOBATES CATESBEIANUS
Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine, 2018Alfaxalone is becoming a popular anesthetic for nonmammalian vertebrates, but the physiological effects of its administration remain largely unknown in these taxa. Therefore, the cardiovascular responses to a clinically relevant dose of alfaxalone (10 mg/kg) are reported in the bullfrog ( Lithobates catesbeianus), following intramuscular (IM) and ...

The complete mitochondrial genome ofLithobates catesbeianus(Anura: Ranidae)
Mitochondrial DNA, 2013The complete mitochondrial genome of Lithobates catesbeianus (Anura: Ranidae) is sequenced to analyze the gene arrangement. It is a circular molecule of 18,241 bp in length including 37 genes typically found in other frogs. The AT content of the overall base composition of L. catesbeianus is 59.9%.

Combating adult invasive American bullfrog Lithobates catesbeianus
European Journal of Wildlife Research, 2014American bullfrog Lithobates catesbeianus is considered as one of the world’s worst alien invasive species. Currently, the species is present over almost all continents and is suspected to cause substantial ecological damage. Knowledge about its population density, as well as catchability of the species with commonly used sampling gear, is very useful ...

Insights about the toxic effects of tannery effluent on Lithobates catesbeianus tadpoles
Science of The Total Environment, 2018Tannery industries are considered highly polluting due to the large production of polluted wastewater [untreated tannery effluent (UTE)]. Although previous studies have already shown the consequences from fish, birds and mammals' exposure to this pollutant, little is known about its toxicological effect on representatives of class amphibian.

Metabolic responses in bullfrog, Lithobates catesbeianus after exposure to zinc, copper and cadmium
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Toxicology & Pharmacology, 2020This study investigated the activity of lactated dehydrogenase (LDH), malate dehydrogenase (MDH) enzymes and the levels of glucose, protein and triglyceride in bullfrog tadpoles after exposure to 1 μg L-1 of zinc (Zn), copper (Cu) and cadmium (Cd) isolated and combined for 2 and 16 days. Zn, Cu + Cd and Zn + Cu + Cd increased the activity of the LDH (2

Physicochemical evaluation of the meat of the American Bullfrog (Lithobates Catesbeianus)
Agro ProductividadObjective: To determine the physicochemical characteristics of bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) meat. Design/methodology/approach: Fifteen samples of bullfrog legs and fifteen samples of chicken meat were used. Subsequently, 50% of the meat was cooked in a water bath. Results: Bullfrog meat had less protein and more fat (P<0.05) than chicken meat.

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Molecular & Integrative Physiology
An integrated range of behavioral, physiological, and biochemical adjustments reduces metabolic expenditure and energy utilization during fasting to maintain homeostasis. In order to cope with these adjustments, several vertebrates can modulate immune function and corticosterone secretion while fasting to save energy.
