A lithospheric magnetic field model to spherical harmonic degree 13
2023Detailed mapping of the Earth's magnetic field brings key constraints on the composition, dynamics, and history of the crust. Satellite and near-surface measurements detect different length scales and are complementary. However, direct global inversion of a design matrix built with magnetic field measurements locations of near surface and satellite ...

Mapping and Interpretation of the Lithospheric Magnetic Field
2010We review some of the controversial and exciting interpretations of the magnetic field of the earth’s lithosphere occurring in the four year period ending with the IAGA meeting in Sopron in 2009. This period corresponds to the end of the Decade of Geopotential Research, an international effort to promote and coordinate a continuous monitoring of ...

Lithospheric drift on early Mars: Evidence in the magnetic field
Icarus, 2010Abstract The crustal magnetic anomalies on Mars may represent hot spot tracks resulting from lithospheric drift on ancient Mars. As evidence, an analysis of lineation patterns derived from the ΔBr magnetic map is presented. The ΔBr map, largely free of external magnetic field effects, allows excellent detail of the magnetic anomaly pattern ...

Mapping the Lithospheric Magnetic Field from CHAMP Scalar and Vector Magnetic Data
2003Eighteen months into the CHAMP mission there is now a seizable data set of scalar and vector magnetic measurements. With this data the lithospheric magnetic field can be mapped far more accurately than in previous missions.

A newly developed software package to calculate the magnetic field in a spherical coordinate system near the Earth's surface and on satellite height is shown to produce reliable modeling results for global and regional applications. The discretization cells of the model are uniformly magnetized spherical prisms, so called tesseroids.

A Comparison of Global Lithospheric Field Models Derived from Satellite Magnetic Data
2003Satellite missions over more than three decades, have added immensely to our understanding of the geomagnetic field. Here, we give a comparison of the lithospheric field models, prepared by various workers from POGO, Magsat, Orsted and CHAMP satellite data.
