Crustal structure and rift flank uplift of the Adare Trough, Antarctica [PDF]
The Adare Trough, located 100 km northeast of Cape Adare, Antarctica, represents the extinct third arm of a Tertiary spreading ridge between East and West Antarctica. It is characterized by pronounced asymmetric rift flanks elevated up to over 2 km above

Tertiary-Quaternary intra-plate magmatism in Europe and its relationship to mantle dynamics [PDF]
Anorogenic intra-plate magmatism was widespread in Europe from early Tertiary to Recent times, extending west to east from Spain to Bulgaria, and south to north from Sicily to northern Germany. Magmatism is spatially and temporally associated with Alpine-

The presence of the Etendeka flood basalts in northwestern Namibia is taken as evidence for the activity of the Tristan da Cunha mantle plume during the continental breakup between Africa and South America.

Subcontinental lithospheric mantle beneath Central Europe [PDF]
Mantle xenoliths in Oligocene-Miocene alka- line lavas in Lower Silesia (SW Poland) and adjacent part of Upper Lusatia (SE Germany) are samples of the subcon- tinental lithospheric mantle at the time of culmination of rifting in the Eger Rift (Bohemian Massif, Central Europe).

Mafic alkaline metasomatism in the lithosphere underneath East Serbia: evidence from the study of xenoliths and the host alkali basalts [PDF]
Effects of mafic alkaline metasomatism have been investigated by a combined study of the East Serbian mantle xenoliths and their host alkaline rocks.

Plume-subduction interaction forms large auriferous provinces
The lithospheric controls on giant gold deposits remain unclear. Here, the authors show evidence for native gold in the mantle from the Deseado Massif in Patagonia demonstrating that refertilisation of the lithospheric mantle is key in forming ...

Lithospheric heating by mantle plumes [PDF]
Summary. A broad topographic swell is associated with the Hawaiian hotspot. A kinematic model is developed assuming that downstream of the hotspot this swell is produced by lithospheric heating by a mantle plume. Material from the model plume flows radially in the asthenosphere and eventually heats the lower lithosphere.

Tertiary-Quaternary subduction processes and related magmatism in the Alpine-Mediterranean region [PDF]
During Tertiary to Quaternary times, convergence between Eurasia and Africa resulted in a variety of collisional orogens and different styles of subduction in the Alpine-Mediterranean region.

The Ability of Significant Tidal Stress to Initiate Plate Tectonics [PDF]
Plate tectonics is a geophysical process currently unique to Earth, has an important role in regulating the Earth's climate, and may be better understood by identifying rocky planets outside our solar system with tectonic activity.

Coupled Evolution of Plate Tectonics and Basal Mantle Structure
The relationships between plate motions and basal mantle structure remain poorly understood, with some models implying that the basal mantle structure has remained stable over time, while others suggest that it could be shaped by the aggregation and ...
