Record litter size in the eurasian red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In the literature, litter size in red squirrels Sciurus vulgaris ranges between 1-6 offspring. Here we report a record litter size, in Europe, of 7 young (6 males, 1 female), marked in the nest when 10-14 days old, in a high-elevation mountain pine ...

CHANGES IN UTERINE CAPABILITY DUE TO INCREASED LITTER SIZE AT 7 WEEKS OF PREGNANCY IN KACANG GOAT

open access: yesJurnal Kedokteran Hewan, 2018
The purpose of this research was to study the changes in uterine support capability power due to increase of litter size in Kacang goat. In this study, 9 pregnant female Kacang goats were divided into 4 different groups based on litter size, namely 1, 2,

Size Does Matter: Litter Size Strongly Determines Adult Metabolism in Rodents [PDF]

open access: yesCell Metabolism, 2020
In this essay, we highlight how litter size in rodents is a strong determinant of neonatal growth and long-term metabolic health. Based on these effects, we strongly advise that scientific articles that utilize rodent models for obesity and metabolic research should include information on the litter sizes in the study to increase the data transparency ...

Hyperandrogenemia Induces Trophoblast Ferroptosis and Early Pregnancy Loss in Patients With PCOS via CMA‐Dependent FTH1 Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In PCOS patients with hyperandrogenemia, decreased ferritin heavy chain 1 (FTH1) causes Fe2⁺ overload and ferroptosis in trophoblasts. Androgens induce FTH1 protein degradation via AR‐LAMP2A‐mediated chaperone‐mediated autophagy pathway, leading to placental development disruption and early pregnancy loss. Metformin mitigates androgen‐induced placental

‘Heterosis’ in litter size of chimaeric mice

open access: yesGenetical Research, 1985
SUMMARYAggregation chimaeras were made from embryos of C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice. Chimaeric and control females were mated with ICR males at 8 weeks of age and their litter sizes were evaluated over a 5-month period after the first mating. Progeny tests showed that 18 of 27 chimaeras produced oocytes of both genotypes.
