Determination of cadmium, lead and mercury residual levels in meat of canned light tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis and Thunnus albacares) and fresh little tunny (Euthynnus alletteratus) in Libya [PDF]

open access: yesOpen Veterinary Journal, 2015
Surveillance for mercury (Hg), lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) contamination in tuna products is crucial for consumer food safety. Hg, Pb and Cd contaminants were monitored in a total of 60 specimens of fresh little tunny (Euthynnus alletteratus) and popular ...

Morphological, molecular and pathological appraisal of Callitetrarhynchus gracilis plerocerci (Lacistorhynchidae) infecting Atlantic little tunny (Euthynnusalletteratus) in Southeastern Mediterranean [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Research, 2016
The Atlantic little tunny, Euthynnus alletteratus, is widely distributed in temperate and tropical waters of the Atlantic Ocean, Black and Mediterranean Seas. In this study, wild-caught little tunny from Egypt, were found to be naturally infected with trypanorhyncha metacestodes, and the overall prevalence rate of infection was 38.7%.

Reproductive biology of little tunny Euthynnus alletteratus (Rafinesque, 1810) in the southwest Gulf of Mexico [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2019
The aim of this study was to describe the reproductive dynamic of Euthynnus alletteratus in the southwest Gulf of Mexico. The annual variation of the volume fraction occupied by gametes and tissues in gonads were related with main body indexes, such as ...

Maximum swimming speeds of sailfish and three other large marine predatory fish species based on muscle contraction time and stride length: a myth revisited [PDF]

open access: yesBiology Open, 2016
Billfishes are considered to be among the fastest swimmers in the oceans. Previous studies have estimated maximum speed of sailfish and black marlin at around 35 m s−1 but theoretical work on cavitation predicts that such extreme speed is unlikely.

Diet and feeding ecology of the little tunny, Euthynnus alletteratus (Pisces: Scombridae) in the central Colombian Caribbean: changes in 18 years [PDF]

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2013
Trophic ecology and diet of the little tunny (Euthynnus alletteratus) in central Colombian Caribbean is described. The little tunny is a pelagic top predator but not a voracious fish (trophic level of 4.49, Q/B of 10.8).

Massive consumption of gelatinous plankton by Mediterranean apex predators. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Stable isotopes of carbon and nitrogen were used to test the hypothesis that stomach content analysis has systematically overlooked the consumption of gelatinous zooplankton by pelagic mesopredators and apex predators.

Reproductive Biology of Little Tunny , Euthynnus Alletteratus ( Rafinesque 1810 ) in the Eastern Coast of Alexandria , Egypt [PDF]

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Aquatic Biology and Fisheries, 2014
Reproductive biology of Euthynnus alletteratus was described based on 628 fishes that were collected from Abu Qir landing site between October 2006 and September 2007. Only 146 specimens were sexually distinguished (102 females, 44 males) and the others were immature. The sex ratio was estimated as M: F 1:2.3.
