Stable Isotope Food Web Analysis of a Large Subtropical Lake: Alternative Explanations for 15N Enrichment of Pelagic vs. Littoral Fisheries

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2003
The food webs of littoral, pelagic, and littoral-pelagic ecotone (interface) regions of a large subtropical lake were investigated using stable isotope ratio methods, expanding the focus of a previous fish-only study to include other food web components ...

Occurrence of the Macrocyclops distinctus (Richard) (Copepoda, cyclopoidida) in Rybinsk reservoir. [Translation of: Materialy po biologii i gidrologii Volzhskikh Vodokhranilishch. Moscow, Leningrad 1963, pp. 13-16] [PDF]

open access: yes, 1963
This brief chapter describes the occurrence Macrocyclops distinctus in the littoral zone of the Rybinsk Reservoir. Sampling was undertaken in summer and autumn 1961. In order to facilitate distinction of M.

EFFECTS OF NONUNIFORM WAVE ENERGY IN THE LITTORAL ZONE

open access: yesCoastal Engineering Proceedings, 1970
Bi-weekly monitoring of four closely-spaced permanent beach profile stations located on the northeast end of Monomoy Island (Cape Cod) has revealed major variations in the amount of erosion and accretion occurring along this portion of the Massachusetts shoreline During the 27-month monitoring period a close relationship was observed between changes in

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Nitrate, water temperature, conductivity, and transparency drive littoral phytoplankton species composition and biovolume in two reservoirs in the Xingu river

open access: yesWater Biology and Security
Ecological interactions in the littoral zone maintain water quality, biodiversity, and ecological services in freshwater ecosystems. Phytoplankton occupy a central position in the ecosystem due to their sensitivity to environmental changes and ecological

Habitat expansion of a tropical chironomid by seasonal alternation in use of littoral and profundal zones

open access: yesJournal of Limnology, 2022
The consistent warming of tropical lakes at all depths causes rapid development and long persistence of seasonal hypoxia in the hypolimnion, which greatly reduces the biodiversity of hypolimnetic benthic invertebrates. Full mixing of the water column in

Invasion of a littoral cladoceran Sida crystallina into the pelagic zone of Christine Lake, NH and its potential impact on the phytoplankton community [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This study evaluated the phytoplankton community and grazing influences of the zooplankton in oligotrophic Christine Lake, NH, by assessing the body size and clearance rates of the three dominant crustaceans: Sida crystallina (0.08 individuals L-1 ...

Population of Nonmetallic Inclusions in Liquid High‐Silicon Electrical Steel in Contact With MgO–C Refractories Based on Recyclates and Environmentally Friendly Binders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The formation of nonmetallic inclusions (NMIs) was investigated in this study, carrying out immersion tests for 30 min at a temperature of 1600°C with liquid high‐silicon electrical steel (Si ≈ 3 mass‐%) and different MgO–C refractories. Conventional MgO–C refractories were considered, as well as MgO–C refractories containing MgO–C recyclate and ...
