The effect of live weight gain and live weight loss on body composition of merino wethers: chemical composition of the dissected components

Journal of Animal Science, 1992
Chemical composition of the dissected side parts and dissected side was measured during live weight gain (LWG) and live weight loss (LWL) to determine effects on the chemical composition of the dissected side parts. Thirty-five Merino wethers had ad libitum access to the experimental diet (17.23% CP and 12.09 MJ/kg of DE) to grow from 23.0 to 33.0 kg ...

Live weights at slaughter significantly affect the meat quality and flavor components of pork meat

Animal Science Journal, 2019
AbstractOne‐hundred‐twenty crossbred pigs finished at 175–185 days of age were used to investigate the effects of live weights at slaughter on the meat quality, volatile flavor compounds, and sensory attributes of pork meat. Based on the live weights at slaughter, three weight groups (n = 36 per group) were classified as follows: light weight (LW: 100 ...

Variance components for live weight, body measurements and reproductive traits of pair-mated ostrich females

British Poultry Science, 2006
Estimates of genetic parameters for reproductive traits, live weight and body measurements were obtained using data from a pair-mated ostrich flock at Oudtshoorn in South Africa. Reproductive traits included total egg and chick production, along with hatchability percentage.

Live weight loss and its components in Romney ewes subjected to L-thyroxine therapy and a low plane of nutrition. Part II. Effects on some non-carcass components of live weight

The Journal of Agricultural Science, 1958
1. The effects of l-thyroxine therapy and a low plane of nutrition on some of the non-carcass components of live weight in New Zealand Romney ewes were investigated.2. Thyroxine treatment significantly lowered the weight of the gastrointestinal tract contents.

Live weight loss and its components in Romney ewes subjected to L-thyroxine therapy and a low plane of nutrition. Part I. Effects on live weight, carcass weight and carcass composition

The Journal of Agricultural Science, 1958
1. An experiment involving fifty Romney ewes of known history is described. These ewes were randomized to ten treatment groups of five ewes so that group mean live weights were approximately equal. The average live weight of the ewes was 147 lb. at selection and 135.5 lb. at the beginning of the 28-day experimental period.

Effects of sex and gonadectomy on the growth and development of Southdown × Romney cross lambs. Part I. Effects on live–weight growth and components of live weight

The Journal of Agricultural Science, 1966
The influence of sex and gonadectomy on liveweight growth and its components was examined in a comparative slaughter experiment using Southdown – Romney cross lambs run under New Zealand pastoral feeding conditions.Twenty ram lambs were castrated and 20 ewe lambs spayed at docking, at approximately 4 weeks of age.

Across flock (co)variance components for faecal worm egg count, live weight, and fleece traits for Australian merinos

Livestock Production Science, 2004
Abstract A field data set was used to estimate heritability of resistance to gastrointestinal nematode parasites and phenotypic and genetic correlations between resistance and production traits in Australian merinos. Faecal egg count (FEC) was measured at two different ages, namely, around 1 year on 16,669 animals out of 650 sires and on 5110 animals
