Single‐Cell and Spatial Transcriptomics Unveil Key Regulators Governing Cell Differentiation for Schistosoma japonicum Sexual Development

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using single‐cell and spatial transcriptomics, we identified key regulators that govern cell differentiation involved in parasite development and egg laying in Schistosoma japonicum. This comprehensive study establishes a foundational resource for understanding schistosome biology, deciphers the regulatory programs underlying cell differentiation and ...

Pyrazole‐Derived Antibacterial Compounds Effectively Treat Methicillin‐Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus Infections by Inhibiting Aspartate Transcarbamoylase

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study unveils a novel antibacterial mechanism against MRSA, in which the compound Py‐27 selectively targets and inhibits aspartate transcarbamoylase (ATCase), a key enzyme in pyrimidine synthesis. This inhibition disrupts DNA replication, induces oxidative damage, leading to potent bactericidal activity.

Snail-borne parasitic diseases: an update on global epidemiological distribution, transmission interruption and control methods

open access: yesInfectious Diseases of Poverty, 2018
Background Snail-borne parasitic diseases, such as angiostrongyliasis, clonorchiasis, fascioliasis, fasciolopsiasis, opisthorchiasis, paragonimiasis and schistosomiasis, pose risks to human health and cause major socioeconomic problems in many tropical ...

HTR1A, TPH2, and 5-HTTLPR Polymorphisms and Their Impact on the Severity of Depressive Symptoms and on the Concentration of Tryptophan Catabolites during Hepatitis C Treatment with Pegylated Interferon-α2a and Oral Ribavirin (PEG-IFN-α2a/RBV)

open access: yesCells, 2023
Background: Seeing that there are no data about associations between serotonin gene polymorphism and tryptophan catabolite concentration during PEG-IFN-α2a treatment, the aim of the current study is to examine (a) the associations between polymorphisms ...

Pyogenic abscesses and parasitic diseases

open access: yesRevista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de São Paulo, 2001
Parasitic diseases which during their course in the host switch the immune system from a T helper 1 to a T helper 2 response may be detrimental to the host, contributing to granuloma formation, eosinophilia, hyper-IgE, and increased susceptibility to ...

Gastrointestinal Helminths of a European Moose Population in Poland

open access: yesPathogens, 2021
Parasitic infections have a negative impact on the fecundity and survival of wild ruminants, particularly moose; however, despite being more susceptible to parasitic diseases than other wild cervids, they remain poorly examined in this regard. Therefore,

Adaptation of Echinococcus Multilocularis to Oxidative Stress Depends on EmPDK‐Mediated Metabolic Reprogramming

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Metabolic adaption presents a vital survival strategy for E. multilocularis. This study identifies EmPDK as a central metabolic regulator governing glucose metabolic reprogramming. Oxidative stress activates EmHIF1α to induce EmPDK expression. Mechanistic characterization reveals this ROS/EmHIF1α/EmPDK axis drives glycolytic reprogramming to sustain ...
