Roles of Nrf2 in Liver Diseases: Molecular, Pharmacological, and Epigenetic Aspects

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2020
Liver diseases represent a critical health problem with 2 million deaths worldwide per year, mainly due to cirrhosis and its complications. Oxidative stress plays an important role in the development of liver diseases.

Adenosine‐to‐inosine editing of miR‐200b‐3p is associated with the progression of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A‐to‐I editing of miRNAs, particularly miR‐200b‐3p, contributes to HGSOC progression by enhancing cancer cell proliferation, migration and 3D growth. The edited form is linked to poorer patient survival and the identification of novel molecular targets.

Cellular microRNA networks regulate host dependency of hepatitis C virus infection

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Using genome-wide miRNA mimic and hairpin inhibitor screens, Li et al. identify 31 miRNAs that either inhibit or promote hepatitis C virus (HCV) replication at different steps of the viral life cycle.

Hepatic progenitor cells from adult human livers for cell transplantation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Objective: Liver regeneration is mainly based on cellular self-renewal including progenitor cells. Efforts have been made to harness this potential for cell transplantation, but shortage of hepatocytes and premature differentiated progenitor cells ...

Radiomics in liver diseases: Current progress and future opportunities

open access: yesLiver international (Print), 2020
Liver diseases, a wide spectrum of pathologies from inflammation to neoplasm, have become an increasingly significant health problem worldwide. Noninvasive imaging plays a critical role in the clinical workflow of liver diseases, but conventional imaging

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

DEFB4A/hBD2, a non-invasive serum biomarker for detection of ulcerative colitis

open access: yesScientific Reports
The ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic episodic relapsing, and remitting inflammatory bowel disease with increasing frequency worldwide. Along with colonoscopy, faecal calprotectin (FCP) > 150 µg/g, elevated faecal Lactoferrin or elevated CRP are now ...
