Older adults, falls and technologies for independent living: a life space approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper draws attention to the need for further understanding of the fine details of routine and taken-for-granted daily activities and mobility. It argues that such understanding is critical if technologies designed to mitigate the negative impacts ...

Comparative Drug Response Profiling in Neuroblastoma Cell Lines and Patient‐Derived Tumor Organoids

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT High‐risk neuroblastoma remains a leading cause of pediatric cancer mortality, and improved preclinical models are needed to guide therapeutic developments. We screened seven high‐risk neuroblastoma cell lines and three patient‐derived tumor organoids with 528 compounds alongside bone marrow controls, and compared them with external datasets ...

老年缺血性卒中患者认知功能与生活空间关联性研究进展Research Progress on the Association between Cognitive Function and Living Space in Elderly Patients with Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesZhongguo cuzhong zazhi
Elderly patients experience cognitive decline and limited living space after ischemic stroke, and the ...

Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
