Water distribution systems as living ecosystems: Impact on taste and odor

Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part A, 2010
Six waters from different U.S. cities with known diverse taste and odor (TO) evaluations were selected for additional microbial characterization. All waters were subjected to microbial and cultural analyses, and four of the waters were further analyzed by cloning and sequencing of community 16S rRNA.

Differential Partitioning of Bioantioxidants in Edible Oil–Water and Octanol–Water Systems: Linear Free Energy Relationships

Journal of Chemical and Engineering Data, 2018
Partition coefficients, PWO, of antioxidants (AOs) between edible oils and water are scarce in the literature, despite that AOs are widely used to control lipid oxidation and the oxidative stress in cells.

A Hg(II)-specific probe for imaging application in living systems and quantitative analysis in environmental/food samples

, 2020
Mercury ions are highly toxic and can accumulate along food chains in water, soil, crops and animals. Effective detection of mercury ions in various media is of great significance for maintaining the ecological environment and protecting people’s health.

Recognition System of Activities in Daily Living Based on Deep Sensing of Water Usage

2021 International Conference on Information Networking (ICOIN), 2021
In recent years, the number of elderly people living alone has been increasing with the accelerated aging of society, and shortage of the labors of the elderly care sector becomes a serious problem. In order to solve this problem, the activity observation and recognition systems for the remote elderly care have been proposed.

Water in complex environments such as living systems

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2002
Abstract With the proposal by H.E. Stanley and coworkers and the late G.W. Robinson and his coworkers that liquid water exists as two rapidly exchanging microdomains of different densities, the already complex living cell has acquired new levels of complexity.

Microplastics in freshwater systems: A review on occurrence, environmental effects, and methods for microplastics detection.

Water Research, 2017
The continuous increase in synthetic plastic production and poor management in plastic waste have led to a tremendous increase in the dumping into our aqueous environment.

Living Organisms in Water Quality Biomonitoring System

2015
The typical living organisms used for biological monitoring of surface waters and their use in applications are presented in the paper. The main focus is on the characterisation and use of freshwater mussels. The paper discusses the role of biomonitoring in surface water supply systems. Three-stage biomonitoring system which has been functioning for 20

Controlled/“Living” Radical Polymerization Applied to Water-Borne Systems

Macromolecular Symposia, 2000
Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), a controlled/“living” radical polymerization, has been extended to water-borne polymerization systems. In order to obtain a controlled ATRP reaction in a water-borne system, various criteria must be met, which are not necessary when conducted in organic solvents.

Turning grey into green – integration of living walls in grey water system

Advances and Trends in Engineering Sciences and Technologies II, 2016
ABSTRACT: Living walls are nowadays becoming an essential part of building indoor or outdoor architecture. Through their ability of managing water, living walls are offering a considerable potential in waste water treatment technologies, also suitable for grey water.
