When I arrived at the Chalfont Centre in September 1969 I was frightened by the place. I did not understand what epilepsy was or why I needed to be there. I was told nothing about it at all. I had been diagnosed with the condition at the age of 14 before being sent to Chalfont. All I knewwas the name of what it was that I had: ‘epilepsy’.
