A spontaneously healed distal femoral fracture in an infant born preterm: A case report and review of the literature

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ultrasound, Volume 52, Issue 9, Page 1467-1472, November/December 2024.
Herein we report a male infant born preterm with a distal femoral fracture after non‐traumatic birth. The fracture is depicted by an elevated periosteum (white arrowheads) and anterior displacement of the right femoral epiphysis (white arrows); in comparison, the left femoral epiphysis is aligned to the femoral metadiaphysis (white arrows).

A comparative in vitro and in vivo analysis of the impact of copper substitution on the cytocompatibility, osteogenic, and angiogenic properties of a borosilicate bioactive glass

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A, Volume 112, Issue 10, Page 1740-1759, October 2024.
The present study evaluates the effects of a borosilicate bioactive glass (BG) that was doped with the pro‐angiogenic copper (Cu). In vitro, the addition of copper significantly improved cytocompatibility, osteogenic differentiation and pro‐angiogenic response of human bone marrow‐derived mesenchymal stromal cells (BMSCs).

Structure and composition of microbial communities in the water column from Southern Gulf of Mexico and detection of putative hydrocarbon‐degrading microorganisms

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 16, Issue 3, June 2024.
This study analysed the bacterioplankton communities from the Yucatan shelf which could potentially respond to latent hydrocarbon impacts in this significant area of the Gulf of Mexico. Based on changes in relative abundances and increases in alkB gene copies, this work suggests that Alteromonas could be considered a keystone microbial group for ...

Generating Ultrasonic Foliage Echoes with Variational Autoencoders

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2024.
In order to study bat biosonar and biomimetic engineering a generative deep learning based leaf impulse response generator is proposed. Trained on a dataset of single leaf echoes with an architecture based on conditional variational autoencoder ‐ generative adversarial network (cVAE‐GAN), a variety of realistic leaf impulse responses can be generated ...
