Fecal Steroids as Tracers of Human Population and Waste Management Practices at the Ancient Maya City of Ucanal, Guatemala

open access: yesArchaeometry, Volume 68, Issue 4, Page 646-658, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Geochemical data compiled from dried sediments from three water reservoirs at the ancient Maya city of Ucanal, Petén, Guatemala, reveal low to undetectable fecal biomarker concentrations. These low concentrations may be the result of the aerobic decay of sterols combined with well‐managed waste disposal practices.

Dual Functionality of a Plasmonic Gold Photocatalyst in the Reversible Dehydrogenation / Hydrogenation of N‐Heterocycles

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 39, 13 July 2026.
A new hybrid plasmonic material, Au@COF, serves as a recyclable photocatalyst for the light‐mediated dehydrogenation and hydrogenation of N‐Heterocycles, where simply adjusting the reaction conditions allows control over the reaction mechanism, marking a notable breakthrough for hydrogen storage.

Thermodynamic Considerations on Gold Dissolution in Different Lixiviants (II)

open access: yesRevista de Chimie, 2019
The paper presents the main thermodynamic aspects related to the gold dissolution with thiosulphate, thiourea and thiocyanate. The thermodynamic stability of the gold complexes and the reaction mechanisms that ensure the gold dissolution in the most representative lixiviants with potential for use in the gold industry are analyzed. The performances of

C and N Isotopic Fractionation Along Permafrost Profiles: A Theoretical Framework and Empirical Tests Across the Arctic

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 131, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Anticipating the decomposition of permafrost organic matter (OM) following thaw is critical for improving projections of climate‐carbon feedbacks. Stable carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) isotope profiles provide integrated records of the environmental and biogeochemical processes that shaped OM during its accumulation and may therefore improve our ...
