Heat treatment duration affects in vitro‐induced photosynthetic impairment and development of necrotic leaf tissue in three Mediterranean oak species

open access: yesPlant Biology, Volume 28, Issue 4, Page 1256-1267, June 2026.
Longer lasting heat treatment durations induced photosynthetic impairment at lower temperatures and caused the development of proportionally more necrotic tissue at lower temperatures in leaves of three Mediterranean oak species. Abstract Short heat treatments are commonly used to estimate the leaf‐level thermal tolerance of tree species. The effect of

Downward Positive Leader Propagation Modes and Their Effects in Positive Cloud‐to‐Ground Lightning Characteristics

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 9, 16 May 2026.
Abstract The return stroke in a cloud‐to‐ground (CG) flash is initiated when the downward leader either reaches the ground or connects with an upward leader from a grounded structure. Unlike negative downward leaders, which typically propagate in a highly branched manner, downward positive leaders (DPLs) can propagate either in a branched or unbranched

Resolving Complex Multiscale Structure of Magneto‐ and Electroactive Polymer Composites With an Ionic Liquid

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 25, 4 May 2026.
Multiscale ionic liquid segregation into nano‐sized domains in the unconfined amorphous polymer phase and into micron‐sized pores enables a coupled magneto‐ and electroactive responses. ABSTRACT A multiscale understanding of the structure of ionogels – nanoparticle‐free polymer composites incorporating ionic liquids – is essential for enhancing their ...

Selective Electrolysis of Water Under Artificial Seawater Conditions Using Transition Metal Borate Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, Volume 16, Issue 18, 13 May 2026.
The borate‐based cobalt‐iron catalyst promotes selective oxidation of water rather than chlorine evolution reaction during electrolysis of seawater. When integrated into a zero‐gap electrolyzer prototype, this catalyst supports robust splitting of artificial seawater into oxygen and hydrogen on an extended timescale.
