Loa loa, the filarial worm causing loaiasis, is limited to Central and West Africa, where it infects some 20 million individuals. The adult worms live in subcutaneous tissues. Their main vectors are dipteran flies of the genus Chrysops; there are no reservoir hosts.

Dermatology (Basel, Switzerland), 1998We report the case of a 17-year-old student from Cameroon who presented an atypical, mono-symptomatic form of Loa loa infection, characterized only by rare subcutaneous movements of adult worms.
