Comparative analysis of metaheuristic load balancing algorithms for efficient load balancing in cloud computing

open access: yesJournal of Cloud Computing: Advances, Systems and Applications, 2023
Load balancing is a serious problem in cloud computing that makes it challenging to ensure the proper functioning of services contiguous to the Quality of Service, performance assessment, and compliance to the service contract as demanded from cloud ...

A novel load-balancing scheme for cellular-WLAN heterogeneous systems with cell-breathing technique [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This paper proposes a novel load-balancing scheme for an operator-deployed cellular-wireless local area network (WLAN) heterogeneous network (HetNet), where the user association is controlled by employing a cell-breathing technique for the WLAN network ...

Why and When Are Evidence‐Based Interventions Adopted in Paediatric Supportive Care? A Qualitative Exploration of the Determinants of Photobiomodulation Implementation

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Oral mucositis is a common and debilitating side effect of childhood cancer and stem cell transplant treatments. It affects the quality of life of children and young people (CYP) and places a strain on services. Photobiomodulation is recommended for oral mucositis prevention in international guidance but is poorly implemented in UK ...

Tight & Simple Load Balancing [PDF]

open access: yes2019 IEEE International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium (IPDPS), 2019
We consider the following load balancing process for m tokens distributed arbitrarily among n nodes connected by a complete graph. In each time step a pair of nodes is selected uniformly at random. Let l_1 and l_2 be their respective number of tokens.

Clinical Insights Into Hypercalcemia of Malignancy in Childhood

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hypercalcemia of malignancy (HCM) is a rare but life‐threatening metabolic emergency in children that occurs in less than 1% of pediatric cancer cases, with a reported incidence ranging from 0.4% to 1.0% across different studies. While it is observed in 10%–20% of adult malignancies, pediatric HCM remains relatively uncommon.

Optimal Net-Load Balancing in Smart Grids with High PV Penetration

open access: yes, 2018
Mitigating Supply-Demand mismatch is critical for smooth power grid operation. Traditionally, load curtailment techniques such as Demand Response (DR) have been used for this purpose.

Load balancing networks [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the fourteenth annual ACM symposium on Principles of distributed computing - PODC '95, 1995
Designing a good task allocation algorithm faces the challenge of allowing high levels of throughput, so that tasks are executed fast and processor parallelism is exploited, while still guaranteeing a low level of memory contention, so that performance does not su er because of limitations on processor-to-memory bandwidth.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Dynamic Diffusion Load Balancing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We consider the problem of dynamic load balancing in arbitrary (connected) networks on n nodes. Our load generation model is such that during each round, n tasks are generated on arbitrary nodes, and then (possibly after some balancing) one task is deleted from every non-empty node. Notice that this model fully saturates the resources of the network in
