Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Analysis of a rapid load test on an instrumented bored pile in clay [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Rapid load testing methods for piled foundations are generally easier and quicker to mobilise than classic static tests, and are less complex to analyse than dynamic load tests.

Experimental Investigation on Web Crippling Property of High-Strength Cold-Formed (HSCF) Rectangular Steel Tube

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2020
To research the web crippling performance (i.e., the ultimate web crippling bearing capacity and ductility) of high-strength cold-formed (HSCF) rectangular steel tubes under concentrated load, thirty-six specimens with different bearing plate width ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Simulation analysis of energy absorption characteristics of hyperbolic shallow shell anti-impact energy absorbing components

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan
To enhance the impact resistance and energy absorption performance of hydraulic supports in mitigating coal mine rock burst, a hyperbolic shallow shell anti-impact energy-absorbing component was designed.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Bearing capacity of cold-formed unlipped channels with restrained flanges under EOF and IOF load cases

open access: yes, 2015
Bearing failure is a form of localized failure that occurs when thin-walled cold-formed steel sections are subjected to concentrated loads or support reactions.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Ultimate Load-bearing Capacity of Self-anchored Suspension Bridges

open access: yes, 2011
This paper presents a method of reduced stiffness coupled with step increments to simulate the nonlinear problem that occurs when a material is in the elasto-plastic stage.
